Re: hull extension in progress with picks
hi guys......sorry i havent been on for a bit......still recouping from the fresh water enema on my b-day.....lol
we all had a great time.......especially the fish......they drank the last 1/3rd of my corona......lol
yar and noklu didnt tell you guys about my folly ...... i was on the swim platform ....uh.......well.......uh....looking at the scenery....yeah....that's..it....looking at the beauteful smoke cloud while listening to the gentile sounds of a waterfall.....
any how....when i stepped in the boat...i stepped on a seat that had the beer cooler under it.......the seat wasnt fully in place, it gave way. i ended up doing a summersalt in the middle of the boat...all i saw was, the sky became the deck and then the sky again........whilst i was trying to figgure out how the universe could have dealt us this cosmic confusion......the deck of the boat hit me in the back.....real hard.....
i couldnt figgure out how come every one was laughing during this clestial disruption........but i thought id just find my sea legs again and take another sip of sody pop.....lol.
the sunburn hid my red face......
we text johnny but he must have been killing fish on his shiney beautful boat.
thanks for all the b-day support guys,....it was great.
ok.......the updates......
this was a little while ago....
last year, i took the boat to the same shop that did the nasty on the gimball housing that you guys heard about......i took it there to have the t hole cut out......well he botched that job....after three days he didnt do a thing !...
bond-o and don s told me to "get your boat away from that hack"....
so i was left to my own devices to cut the hole.
i borrowed a jug from a local marina......the jug was really un nessary as it could have been done with a paper cut out of the hole just as easy.....but what it did do was make sure the drilled out holes were squair on the transom.
the first thing was to find the "x" dimention....this is the crankshaft centerline........(each type of drive is different....you need the manuals to find your specific location for your motor/drive package.)
we had measured from side to side to find the center of the transom....
then using a right angle tool....(a carpenters squair worked perfect in my situation) we found the x dimension.... you will notice that the lower hole is slightly above the x dimention....the tollerance for this is 1.5 ins.....the higher you go the less drag....so i setteled on 3/4 inch. (the big upper hole is nothing....it is the bolt hole that i had used to flip the hull)
all dimensions were double and triple checked before anything was drilled
once the hole is drilled....it is really hard to move....so make sure its right before you put a drill to it....
with the jig in place, and triple measured.....it was time to put holes in my triple thick transom.
again ...the thing that the jug did do was to make sure the holes were squair....if the holes are not squair.....the outer t-plate tends to move on you....making your drive go at a slight angle.
sorry i didnt get shots of me cutting out the hole...i was kinda busy....
it was cut with a sawsall.....the trick to that is to keep the blade cutting straight sections by cutting at an angle....so the blade is at an angle on the transom...not 90 degrees....that way the blade will follow its own path..
(however make sure the blade is perpindicular to the transom)
in this shot....you can see the rounded areas by the thru holes......these are really hard to cut with a straight saw....lol.
in the manual.....there is diagrammes of the cut lines to use to get them right.....however....oops devised his own way...(as usual)
clean up of the rough cut was made quick by a small grinder.
a few test fits were done....
