OOOHHH YEA CONGRADS THERE Tackel !! John

Never even noticed.

Thanks guys.

And Ward, I left you a voice mail on your phone, but make sure you pay your rent on that place or I'm the guy coming after you. At least after the sub-let is done.

I don't own it. Just work for the guy who does.

Oh. And I want to use you shop as well for all the work I need to do on my boat. Just don't want to have to pay for it is all. :)

Are you at the shop now? I'm leaving work and going to drop by. It's pretty much on my way home.

Ah.

You know the guy who owns it.

We've talked about this before.

Not sure who the young guy is. Maybe Travis. The owners brother in law. But you may have also dealt with the guys leasing it.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

It is really nice to see you back.

Are you just renting space in this shop or did they hire you as an employee to work there and fix other boats too? (just wondering what you'd figured out to do for work -- I know you'd mentioned going in with some other guys and opening a shop).

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

i woke up this morning to find my dad in a cherry tree in the back yard with a chain saw.......(yes....his name is geroge!.....lol)
so.....tonight was one of those weird nights that i was kinda side tracked......just not able to focus on the job at hand.

some guy came in with a wake tower and wanted it installed.......less than 2 hrs later.....it was done....lol.....really simple.

but in the mean time.....i really needed to get my head back into the enitre project.....of the hull ext boat....(the total overall scope of it).....

so what did i do?.........well you guessed it ;)......i sat in the boat , holding on to a make shift round disk...(steering wheel) and thought about the entire boat....

it took me 2 beer and 2 hrs.......and i came up with the solutions of what i need to do and how to do it.

i designed the dash board and passenger dash.....the swim grid......the drivers shifter console......and the entire interior....(this means all the little minute detailes.....you know ? the ones that seem to escape us till we are ready to paint?)

so.....after i made the plans.......i started to work on the seat forms again.....they are just about built.....i have pics as well as the wake tower instlation....ill post them tommorow morning for ya all.....

cheers
oops....

p.s.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

This may seem like an odd question, but now that you have your own boat repair company, will this make a difference on how you paint the boat?? Meaning = are you going to use your boat a little bit more as an advertisement for your shop and put your shop's name on it?

It would be perfect advertising for you... I'm guessing that your customers will mostly be people needed stringers, transoms, misc fiberglass work. They'd see what you did to your boat and have confidence that you are the man for the job for their boat.

Now that I'm off on this tangent, I think that whoever you get to cut your transom hole should give you a really good deal in hopes that you use him again when you have to have it done for your customer's whos transom's you replaced... That being said, why don't you cut the transom hole yourself? If you learn to do it yourself, then you wouldn't have to sub that out when you do transoms for your customers?

And, congratulations on opening your own shop. I was once told that if you do something you love for your occupation, then you never have to work another day.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

in keeping with the above questions...

Whats the rule on having a bottle with a yellow, white and blue label on it while you are working on a customers boat? weren't they part of the tools for grinding list?

Those are bottles of inspiration and determination with added electrolytes...

BTW... I think the name on the boat should be "Extra"
Double meaning don't ya think?

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

wow some good questions and great comments!....

no i wont be changing the name of the boat or design in any way.......the name of the shop will not appear on it (at this point)...

it is still just a hobby shop....so beer and clients boats go togeather unless they say specifically not to.

this is kinda fun.....it came in yesterday.

this wake tower was a kit that needed instlaition...

interior1003.jpg

it was the simpelest wake tower kit that i had ever seen.

did some quick measurements......punched a few holes...

interior1004.jpg

did some alignment......and in less than one hour it was on.

interior1005.jpg
.....

just a few more connections.....and its done.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

now.....because of this tower.....i started to think......

the tower i was gonna use was a titan tower....but due to time and money factors......(the tower would have been 3500 to have custom made.....i started to think about building an arch type out of wood and fiberglass.....well some quick drawings later......and i think i might have a workable design.....removable.....foldable and totally functional for the "look" the boat needs.

well then i started to think about fabbing the dash.......i think ive come up with a really good way to make heavy curvature out of fiberglass....but well see....ill be starting on the mock up soon.

i didn't get much physical work done on the boat.....i just kept working on the seats......

i hope these pics help you understand a little better as to what im tyring to acheive.

still assembeling the bottom seat form

interior1001.jpg

this is a good shot of the lower lip .......just imagine the gellcoated fiberglass on the inside of this structure....and that lower lip of glass is the area that will bolt to the deck.

interior1002.jpg

here it is sitting in the boat.

interior1006.jpg

and a final over all shot as far as placement goes.

interior1008.jpg

i will be finishing these seats including the seat backs today......then turning my attention to the dashboard......(at least i think so....ill hafta see "the list").......so.....more pics coming soon!

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Oops I have been following this thread and I have to say "you the man" as we say in the states it is very addictive just waiting to see what happens next along with the finished product. If you would have been video tapping the Whole time you could have called it This Old Boat. I have also read the long winded posts of critisism but you'll get that from those that don't have the stones to do what your doing. Anyway great job so far keep it up.
