oops

best of luck on this new episode of business.

it sounds like a great idea. if you can make it work with the partners
in this economic climate, you will do great when things rebound.

I can see it now

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Great Idea Buddie !!! I like it !!!! would you have enough traffic in your town for it ???????? Man open a super IBoat Shop !!!!!! lol John

the town i live in is the largest boat market between vancouver bc....(above seattle) and lake superior.

every 3rd house has a boat jammed between the fence and drive way....and storage yards are dedicated to boats and rvs.....

actually malibu has a storage facility here......im guessing it to be 40,000 sq feet......they fill the walls with boats on bunks......and just keep cramming them in....! that place is right beside rent-a-boat... (the shop i was working out of this last summer) rent a boat is also a storage lot with some 40 boats on it......

several manufacturers are here....the bigest is campion.....svfara is also here....(now produced out of campion) vector....the bat boat.....and a few others.

just to the north of us is another larce chain of lakes called the shuswap lakes.......there is about 800 house boats alone on that lake.........so the market is actually quite big......big enough to do what we are talking about.

this is a pic of the vector

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Does your store have an area where you could build some sort of a storage area to fit your boat? Maybe out back?

Are there a lot of boat repair shops in your area? If you could corner that market, sounds like a shop could make a fortune just winterizing and de-winterizing boats!

cornering the market would be tough.....but i can see a share to 20% as the mechs all have there own clients.

one mobile mech on a medium-to light schecule reported 17,500 in the month of october doing strictly winterizations.

there is 4 mobile guys and 10-15 marina based mechs.....the main dealerships are booked a month on advance.....if you want work done on your boat......plan ahead!

Ditto on the pre-planning and paperwork. Ideally, don't even have one of the "partners" make the day to day decisions... hire a manager for the business, or give that responsibility to the front desk person.

i agree .. except don't make it a relative.. i watched that kitchen from hell show or w.e and the father was the manager and he screwed everything up but they felt so bad that they couldn't fire him.. messed up the whole company

Right. It needs to be someone with no bias and no stake in what happens other than that a good decision will make things run well. You see the opposite all the time in companies owned by a family or an entrepreneur that is used to controlling everything. Eventually resentment arises.

It's better to have someone do it as a job, and agree that although they don't own the place, they're the boss.

This cooperative thing sounds like a good idea. There's a warehouse size shop around here that is for people who make ceramics. Coop style, with a small company that manages the space, and everyone rents shared space to work on items. Everyone has their own tools. It keeps their home businesses affordable.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

acutally JaSla74,

thats a great idea..

put a small heater in there, hang a few lights..
maybe put some wood down.. on the floor.

knowing oops.. he'll fiberglass the whole buildings
and put a nice gel coat on it.. however.. he have to lengthen it:D:D.
cause thats what he does...

then Iboats will have to start another forum on where do you store/fix your boat..

(another forum mytractorforum.com has a section just for shops and garages)..

Bubba I To Am In The Midwest And Man You Are Right Boating Is Consider Very Much A Privledged Sport At The Marina It Seems When I Go To Some Marinas Around Here If I Ask How Much I Get A Look Like If You Have To Ask You Can't Afford It. So I Found A Small One Man The Owner Marina And Well Maybe I Do Spend Alot There But At Least I Am Not Treated Like A Secound Class Person. For That Reason Right There I Think Oops Will Do Well In His Buisness Adventure.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

we've had some cold here too. (some of that canadian air has drifted south)
we had nights of -17F (-27C) and the highs during the day of 6F (-15C)

freaken cold.. but today its supposed to be a high of 36F (2C) and a low of 10F(-12C).. this weekend.. back to the deep freeze.. they are predicting 5F (-15C) for the high...its too early in the winter for these cold temps.. we usually get these temps in Feb... for a week or two...

you canadians, take your cold air back:p:D.. its been too cold for me to be in my garage..:(
