Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Well it is going to be a little longer. I shot some important footage on my iPhone when I was installing the platform, and the next day i dropped the phone. I did the iCloud backup and everything looked fine.... the the movies are corrupt. So I am trying to retire it again to save the movies. I am not sure what I am going to do if they are gone.

Jay,
Been with you a while. Finally got a reason to get an Iboats account. Boat a boat for a couple of hundred dollars so that I could have one for the river and Corpus Christi Bay. Engine is Great but the stringers and deck are shot. But with your "educational Videos" I actually am very confident I can do it.

Question with this of course.

I have recently run across a material called Star-Board. Its the same thickness as plywood and can be used for decking applications but I was wondering if you think it could be used for a stringer application. This would eleviate all wood from the hull and make it rot resistant. What do you think?

starboard is basically HDPE (high density polyethylene). nothing sticks to it, so it has to be mechanically bonded (screwed). so you cant glass it in, and it doesnt really have any strength.

Is there anything that is not wood that can be installed in place of rotten stringers?

Are you planning on keeping this boat for 20 yrs? Life will have many twists and turns in that amount of time. Permanent Non Rot stringers will cost a significant amount of money. Properly fabricated, installed and maintained Plywood stringers will last 20+ yrs. My boat is 50 yrs old and never had the stringers or transom replaced due to good care and maintenance.

Ok everyone... I was able to upload a few videos, but now I am having issues again. I will Post what I have and upload the rest when I can.

As you guys remember, I odered the sim platform about a month and a half ago from swimplatforms.com. They told me that it would be about three weeks until it was finished... However... They switched manufacturing facilities in the middle and that put them almost a week behind. No big deal, as they kept me in the loop the whole time. They shipped on a Friday, and it was at the shipping yard in Dallas by that Monday... HOLY FAST!!!! I could have had let them deliver it, but I was too exited. I drove down and picked it up the day all the Tornados ripped through Dallas, and caused a lot of Damage. My Dad and I installed it the next day, and it was actually pretty easy. You need two people at least to do it, as it is VERY heavy. I am very happy with how it looks, and it really completes this boat. I ordered some hydroturf to cover up the back of the original swim deck area, as I had bolt holes there from the original ladder. Dad and I took it out the other day just for the fun of it, and the platform stays just above the water at all times. Now this add on is very expensive at around $1500.00 shipped, but it is well worth the money if you need the extra space.

Here is how it looked right out of the Crate

Nice recessed 3 rung swim ladder

The from of the platform goes clear into the outdrive well for stability

Here is a look at the holes that we drilled for the bolts.

Just make sure you follow the instructions about where to drill the holes for your boat.

Here we used the outdrive to hold the platform in place.

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Thanks guys. I should have the other parts done real soon. Part 2 is uploading VERY slow... so I am not sure when it will be ready.

I also did some other things on the boat over the past few weeks. I added a lot of blur led lighting, a head, a new steering wheel, and a new radio. It is just a bunch of stuff that needed to get done. The ladies like to have an official pot to use :)

Yes I know it is not a marine radio, but it was left over from my Silverado. Does anyone have a line on a cover for the Radio. I have looked and looked.

Just thinking out loud, but could you bastardize one of the ones they sell for this purpose...or maybe silicone glue a complete cover over the opening, and if one pops up, you can just clean it off and put the factory one on???
