Jay, high praise again for a job well done. The swim platform turned out great. Glad you were able to dodge those storms...

That really looks great!! I wish I could put one on my boat. But I'm kinda limited on a 1964 Johnson Tri-Hull with an outboard.

The swim platform and other additions look awesome as always.

On your stereo, I realize you already had this one, but if you're looking for an upgrade, I HIGHLY recommend this one if you're going to be consistently using an ipod/iphone as your music source http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe...atellite/iPod-Docking-Marine-Receiver&i=92230 The ipod/iphone stores right inside it which is ideal on a boat especially with yours being behind a (currently non-existent :p) splash guard. I had the non-marine model of this stereo in my Honda and was super pleased with it.

I looked at that exact one, and I loved it... but I water to get some wake tower speakers and and amp too... so that meant repurposing the pioneer for now.

Friscoboater or anyone that may answer: I know its been a while since you did your awesome boat restore. I have a question about page page 33 post 805 'False Floors.' I want to understand the layout. This is how i think it works: Any bow water tunnels under the ski locker's false floor under the gas tanks false floor into the bilge. Correct?
How did you tie in the ski locker's drain plug? Where does it drain to?
The reason I am asking is because in my bayliner the gas tank sits on 4-5 flimsy rubber pieces right on the hull. I noticed in a waterhose test, the water is getting stuck in the gas tank area. In my deck replacement, i need to alleviate the problem

Boat looks great Jay! Definately going to spread the word about your videos. I know me and my father always enjoy your videos and have used them for references through our project. We are always asking ourselves "How would Jay do it?" or "I think Jay has a video about that.", then we run in and check the vids.

Keep up the good work man.

I liked that quick inspection tour video you recently posted on Youtube of your "Frisco Jarrett covert activities" in inspecting a Cobalt 25 footer for your friend.

You were mentioning ideas on more videos for needed for educating boaters and whatnot.

Depending on circumstances, time, and how cooperative some boat sellers might be in sneaking a few small discrete short segments of video, you might want to post every once in a while a video doing what most would call a "marine survey" of a vessel to decide on a potential purchase.

At least not often enough to be well known or noticed in the area where it becomes an issue, and maintaining ownership privacy.

I see this greatly helping the most with people new to the boat buying process involving fiberglass boats, especially ones with inboard or I/O engines.

Here is some of the suggestions directed on videos to those new to the used boat buying process:

#1. Obvious signs of neglect/damage that is not cosmetic (leaking freeze plugs, hull damage, drive damage, etc.)

#2. Less obvious signs of neglect/damage that is structural and harder to find (stringer rot, floor rot, transom issues, etc.)

#3. How to determine value in a boat that may just have a reasonable amount of superficial neglect but not drive system or structure. One that is about 1980's, typical bowrider or bass boat, and one mid to late 1990's bowrider or bass boat.

#4. Anything else that my brain fails to recall on this exact moment.

I would love to do a whole video series about that, but it is hard to find people that will allow you to video and pick their boat apart.

Speaking of easy, this reminds me of someone asking Staples to make an easy button for boat restoration. They could surely make one and get it and work correctly, but it'd cost a whopping home mortgage to pay off.

Hi there, your thread, blog and related pics and videos are inspirational and I think fast approaching cult status! Certainly I've enjoyed watching your progress and the many helpful tips included, which give me encouragement for my own resto. I hope it doesn't become too much of a burden :).
There are some conflicting views on sealed compartments vs lumber holes going on in this thread: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=541713&page=2 and I'd be interested in your perspective as I know you tackled the same issues. Cheers!

Hey Jay. I have been following you stuff for quiet a while now. I also subscribe to the youtube channel. I love watching all the stuff you do. I figure eventually my 95 Maxum 1800 SR will need the floor done. Thanks for the great example.

Anyway my main question is about your steering wheel on the Searay. Did you install that new or was it on the boat when you bought it. If you did put it on yourself could you let me know where you got it? If not what brand is it?

Thanks,
Jason

I posted on that thread. Basically that post you read was early on in the build, and was from a boat builder here is town, and was just a guideline. I took some of his advise, and other times I did not. I learned that you can never completely stop water intrusion, so I just did my best. Trust me, we are doing waaaaaaaaay never than what was originally done from the factory.
