Very important question. I plan on making a pedestal of two pieces of 3/4' ply bonded together with t nuts in the bottom for the captains chairs. I do not want to penetrate the deck at all. I was going to bond it to the hull and them glass over it with a layer of 1708 and CSM. Do you think that will keep it from ripping loose?
Here is what I did Jay. The base is extremely solid, and nothing penetrates the deck.
T-Nuts on the bottom of the wood base
Wood base secured to the deck with a Poly/Peanut butter mix. I put Vaseline on the screw threads, and screwed them into the T-nuts so that none of the poly mix set up in the T-nut threads. After it was secure to the deck I went ahead and put a few layers of cloth over the mount, and extended it onto the deck 4 inches or so. Sanded it down and it looked great.

Here is how it came out after putting GelCoat over it all. Turned out great. I made the some mounts for my trim motor and battery as well, again nothing penetrating the deck back there.
