I'm sorry to hear about your mom Jay. That really sucks. I lost my mom 5 years ago to cancer, she was only 56. However, the treatment she received was amazing and allowed her to fight and live a pretty good life for over 3 years with a terminal diagnosis. So good luck to your mom!

Jay,

I am so sorry to hear about your mothers illness. I lost my father in 1984. My mother is in a nursing home. She is 86 and has alzheimer. I know these are very hard times. Your father will need all the suport he can get from your family. Keep your faith and continue to pray.
I will share this with my church members and keep you and your family in our prayers.

Let's hope for the positive outcome, and keep those prayers coming. I get wet eyes just thinking about it. How in the world you can focus and complete the things you do with all this going on is amazing.

I went through losing my dad in 2000 and it was unexpected. It's something we all unfortunately have to go through at some point but are never prepared for.

Power of positive thinking...anything can happen and with any luck she will pull bounce back.

Guys, I am very touched by your comments, and I thought twice about writing that this morning. I just needed to write it down, and I consider you guys my friends. I am really sorry that this is not on topic, but getting this out really helps.

I really never thought it would come down to having to day goodbye to her, but I am afraid that is where we are. She is a very strong woman, and she has said the whole time through the treatment that she was going to be fine. So I never EVER gave it a thought to her leaving us. Now all of a sudden in the last week it has gone down hill fast, and I have to face the facts.

I went and spent most of the afternoon and evening with her and my Dad. My Dad and I went to dinner, and had a long talk about the will God has for her. He said "God is not in the business of healing the flesh, but to heal souls, and her soul was healed many many years ago." For whatever reason a peace came over me at that moment. I know that my mother is a believer, and she will be in a better place.

There is a chance with the treatment they do tomorrow, things will turn around, so I am going to pray for that. They just cannot figure out why her body is not responding.

Give your family a little extra hug and realize they could be called home at any time.

I heard this song tonight on the way home and it touched me.

So true, just writing it out helps so much...

Your dad is right on this and your mother is at peace. She will be fine, no matter what happens to her body. "to live is Christ, to die is gain."

So I just read oops big secret to foaming and I like it and find it very interesting. I am curious as to how you will do this with those extra bulkheads. I think the concept is ingenious. I suppose you could cut some holes in the bulkheads along the stringers and have free flowing channels from front to back. Can't wait to see you put the deck on this beast.

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Jay,
First of all let me say I'm keeping the best thoughts for your Mother. I pray this weekend is enjoyable for her, some how, some way...

I haven't replied to any portion of your thread yet but you just won yet another huge fan. When I saw your first video, I recalled the day I realized we bought a rotten boat at high price. We got ripped off bad, first time boat owners. I just didn't know what to do. And then I found the iboats forums. Well, the rest is history and we have what I like to call a brand new '88 Glastron SSV-199 (see my sig for the web blog). I got caught up on your Sea Ray and Glastron threads over the last couple days and I must say, you are doing things right. There are a couple things I wish I had done a bit differently on my boat and you have demonstrated those well. We ended up using Epoxy type resin for everything which was great but I think my next project we'll look at the Poly. We live in New Mexico and there ain't anything for boat rebuild suppliers around here so I ended up buying all our fiberglassing supplies from US Composites. They were good to me, I'd go back to them again if the need arises. Anyway it was a huge delay to get supplies, about a week for the UPS Ground shipping. We ended up using whole wheat flour (yes the kind you make food with) along with the 1/4" milled fiber for our fillet mixture. Funny thing is with the brownish color of the wheat flour it actually looked like peanut butter. It worked great, I'm not sure where I got the idea for using the whole wheat flour but we were able to get it locally and I believe I got that advice from somewhere on the iboats forum.

Well this post is quickly turning into a novel, don't want to hold you up with my gibberish but I just had to say I fell in love with your Sea Ray after you showed the gorgeous gelcoat in your first video. You're going to have a beauty when she's done. Keep it up Brother. The videos are awesome!

Cheers,
Nick

J,
I've been a silent one here too and have enjoyed your vids and like you, I love a challenge. When it comes to mom and dad tho, dad, the guy who raised me on the water, and mom, who always had the towel.......Keep your head-up.

Jay I am really Sorry about your mom I have been following your thread and it gave me the ambition to go a head and do my stringers ....I didn't have to do my transom and I am doing a few things differently than you but you are my source for ambition ..... I have been contemplating how to create channels in the foam and I know you have as well ... I think I have come up with a solution........ you know those big long balloons that they use to make animals and stuff... I was thinking if I blow up a couple of those and then tape them down so they cover the limber holes that I am making in the new stringers..... after foaming stick a screwdriver up in the limber hole and pop goes the balloon and you have a channel... also if you tie a string to the ballon you could pull out some of the larger pieces

A link to what I am talking about they are 2" diameter and 5' long

I really like that idea, and I am going to look into it. The only thing I worry about it is popping under the pressure when you pour the foam.

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Well guys, I have some good news. I just got back from the hospital, and my mother has improved a little bit. They found that the pain meds are hurting her liver, and so they took her off of them for now. The problem with that is she is in SERIOUS pain due to the Graft VS host disease. So the situation is not as grave as the other day, but still is not good. She still is not coherent at all, and cannot talk. She is hallucinating bad, and does not know what is going on. So all we can do is try and keep her comfortable and see if this heals.

Some more family members came up to the room and we had to leave (they limit the visitors), and I think I will try and get some work done on the boat.

Thanks for all the prayers guys, and keep it up. Right now it is a big waiting game.

I'm glad to hear she is improving, but sorry to hear what she is going through. Hang in there, maybe the boat will help you relax some.
