"I am loving this boat more and more every day, and yes I am glad I purchased it now."

Of course you are.. The more blood and sweat we pour in em.. The more us boat lovers love em.. I love mine.. Sometimes I can smell that I been working on it from the night before.. Ya gotta love your boat... Can't wait to see what that Big Block does.. At least ya don't have to do engine replacement....

Jay, Seacast has a lot of different ways to do it on their website, but I'm wondering if you can do similar to what I did? Lay up several layers of CSM up on a flat smooth surface (i used some scrap gloss Formica) to form a sheet. Then make a template of the shape of your transom and transfer it to the sheet. Then cut out he new "inner skin".....glue spacers to the inner skin, then glue the inner skin / spacers to the transom. Tab it in around the edges (excpet for the top) then pour in the seacast from the top? Looks like you could do that from your pic. You would have to block out the key hole or cut it out afterward (maybe a combination of both). Just a thought.

I agree with ARCH, You should be able to build an inner skin like he did, and then build a plywood plug to match the outdrive hole, WAX it real good, insert it tape it, and block it off and pour the seacast. Oughta work like a charm.

Just a suggestion for the keyhole and Sea Cast. Take cardboard and use your keyhole as the template to mark the cardboard. Then cut enough layers of it to fill the gap. Wrap it in Wax paper so Sea Cast will not stick to it, you can even attach it to the new inner skin with screws after you have the lower part around garboard drain poured in.

Just wondering if anyone here has tried using Coosa?

Bluewater 26 in particular for a transom?

Wow! What a weekend. I took out the grinder and went to town!! I did not video anything as all the dust would have ruined the camera. I have about 1/3 of the hull ground smooth in about 8 hours of work. I need to figure out how to speed it up. I am using a 4 1/2" grinder with a 36 grit flap wheel, and it is working, albeit slow. It just is not big enough. I am thinking of getting a 7 ' grinder with a 4o grit just to knock off the large stuff. It might cut down the time.

I am still trying to wrap my head around the sea cast idea for the transom. I need to figure out how to make the mold, and that is where my little brain is having the hardest time. I remember seeing a resto thread with a glastron (like my other one) that he used sea cast. Of coarse I cannot find it.

im pretty sure you need to leave the outer skin on for it to work properly, and chainsaw out the wood from above, which is next to impossible without pulling the cap, which is very difficult on a large boat...

You might want to watch my videos. The transom is completely accessible without pulling the cap.

sorry, i ment inner skin, thus creating a mold, obviously the outer skin stays ;)

having enough room to get a chainsaw vertical above the transom to go down between the skins is where the cap gets in the way

ive watched all your vids... ive even thought about starting a video blog for mine as well:p

heres a vid, this one is an outboard, which does make life easier...

The inner skin is gone, and that allowed me to get out the old wood. I just need to figure out a way to re-make the inner skin and then pour.

yeah, theres a shop in town here that sells 4x8 fibreglass sheets, they are like 1/4" thick maybe... something like that could work. Im not sure if you need to keep the inner skin after the seacast has cured or if you can remove it again. If you only need it for curing, then it could be fairly crude with one of those sheets and some ducktape, along with a few bolts like in that vid to set the thickness and to keep it from slipping.

Is the transom flat jay? If so doing the inner skin like I mentioned should be really easy....as long as you have room to pour in the seacast at the top, it should go really smoothly. By the way you do need to keep the inner skin, it is part of the structure so to speak.

On the grinding, I use a 5" air grinder with a fiberglass backing plate and 24 grit disk. They will smoke through fiberglass, but need a pretty stout air compressor.

I got a really good compressor, but I think I will get that 7' grinder with the flap wheel. I need to turn on the afterburners.

make a cardboard template of the transom for ur inner skin. trace the template onto a couple pieces of glass. then layup the glass. that will recreate ur inner skin, then you can just tap it into place and glass it in. then u can pour ur transom. to do that u can either remove the cap. or depending on ur access on the inside u could pour it from not quite the top of the inner skin. u may not be able to do this with sea cast as it is very thick and needs a relatively wide funnel/hole to pour it into. maybe consider nida-core it is more of a milkshake consistance(more runny than seacast (according to nida core rep)). Its an I/O so i couldnt imagine that the top 1 or 2 inches that u would miss by pouring it on the top of the accessible part of the inner skin would matter.

I could be wrong... and if i am...i'll be corrected in
