Dang, you guys were RIGHT, I've got a soggy transom.

I don't think you change can the thread title at this point. You can change the 'title' of a post, as I have done, but I think your thread title remains unchanged when it appears on the Resto forum homepage. And I think it only changes MY post's 'title', posts after mine revert to the original thread title.

I am going to start grinding before I do these deck supports were only glassed in on one side not the top or the side toward the gunwales
being as there were no stringers and other then where there were holes the wood is fine. I am going to replace the rotted area. My ? is should I try to glass them in better or go on the theory that water should not get to this area. They will be surrounded by foam

I'd replace anything that looked even remotely rotten and glass it in as good as I could for a stronger more durable build.

s jig I did plan on replacing all rotten wood the only problem I see on glassing the deck support is its about 3" high and only about a inch away from the gunwale so not sure how i will deal with that

Also what exactly is the glass covered piece of wood about 2" tall down the center of the bottom of the hull

Sounds like I should have known that again I suppose I should ck this for rot also It is hard to see in the picture but the manufacturer cut a flat spot about 4" long for the fuel tank to sit better. So I thought is was not that important but I guess I was wrong

Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

So I started looking for new fuel tanks and finding the size that is close to my original is not looking good. I do not have a lot of depth under the deck and that is where I'm having a problem. Is there a place that will ck my old one or is that just a bad idea the old tank is aluminum and is not leaking as of now

If it's empty & has NO gas fumes left inside, a radiator shop might pressure test it for you. They do aluminum radiator repairs & pressure tests...... When you rinse out the tank, it's a good time to get all the crude & carp out of it too.....

Not before you take it to be pressure tested. Then etch, prime & paint will help keep corrosion at bay. POR15 make a gas tank and is tenacious stuff
