I don't see any reason that what you propose wouldn't work. I like the cradle too!!!:D

Ok I drilled the keel and as you can see the first 20 inches is wet then the rest seems dry whats the best way to deal with this

This is your center stringer. Deal with it like the side stringers. Nothing special

Uhmmm, no, it's just a keel! The boat has no Stringers!!! I'd cut the glass off the portion that's wet and remove it. I'd then fashion a wood replacement piece and PB it back in place and glass it back in.

WoG, I am not sure how did you come to this definitive definition of keel vs center stringer but ? in my humble knowledge ? structural keel in traditional naval architecture is the spine of the boat, the very first piece that is laid down to support all of the subsequent structural components of the vessel.

This is a fiberglass boat; the hull was formed in a mold not around a keel as a spine. With that said, again, I am not sure why would anyone feel so strongly that this component in the picture is a keel and not a center stringer. In any event, I have no interest in turning this into a nomenclature debate. Just was curious to know what led you to your conclusion.

Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

You are correct but regardless of how this boat was built, IMHO a wooden structure placed in the spine of any boat would be called the keel, so therefore I call this the keel of this boat and not a stringer, even though it may not be the central structrual component like in a wooden boats structure it's still called the keel.

I did a Google search for Fiberglass Hull Keel and found this pic... Looks like that long bumpy thing on the bottom of the boat just like ahmincha's and they call it a keel. All the pics reference the same structure. That's what I've always heard it called on all boats. But again, I'm just an Old Dumb Okie so I really don't know for sure. It prolly don't matter much either. Bottom line if it's wet and rotting it needs to come out and get replaced IMHO.;)

Thanks DeepBlue2010
And thank you to wood I do plan on cutting out the wet area just wanted to know if I have to take it all out or only to dry wood. The notch you see cut in the keel/stringer was done from manufacturer to accept the plywood that the fuel tank sat on. It was as you see it now no fiber glass that why I thought I would be able to only cut out the wet area.

Freshly cut out keel seemed to be right against the hull no space in between is this the norm

The only way to 'recover' the pix is to go to each post, delete the invalid pix link, and add the newly moved & renamed pix again. 1 by 1, post by post.....

The linkes in your postes are now pointing to a resource files that can't be found simply becuase you moved it to somewhere else and renamed it. All you need to do is to go back to all you posts and update your links to the new location/name or restore your old name/structure on PhotoBucket
