Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

I suppose you could do that as long as you stay within the 3/4" limits. I just don't think it's the best method of filling the void. If you do go ahead with this plan I would use cabosil as well as the CMF. the resin needs it for structural integrity. I would probably add some torn up 1708 fibers into the mix as well.

Resin with just chopped would be kinda brittle. I'd add a bit of cabosil. You would still be able to pour it.

First a question...
Are you trying to leave the original surface undisturbed, or do you plan to refinish...?
If, the answer is, you are going to refinish...
Then using a cut off wheel, very carefully, cut out the outer skin of the void, just past the rounded edges...build up resined and CSM'd plywood to fill the void, install, then use PB to reattach the skin and using typical fiberglass repair method, patch the remaining seam by tapering the joint and filling with CSM/1708...

Hi gt I did not want to disturb outer skin not even sure if its worth the work to add another motor. I just thought it would be nice to have a back up in case of a problem with the main. But if I do this I will only do it the right way

Outside repair...grind and feather 3-4 inches all around. 2 layers of CSM. Sand and fair. Fill with fairing compound using a bit of cabosil and glass bubbles. Gelcoat and or Paint.

What ask us. Looks like you have everything under control. Great glass work. Seriously I think PB in there would be perfect. But just curious, why not have made a 4'' notch, then use a 2x4, then notch out for your wide boards. Curious is all.

Thanks tc to tell you the truth I never gave it any thought thats how it was and I went into auto pilot haha
No dumb ideas you forget I did not fill those voids on the transom while in there and now have to go back in. oh well live and learn
On a good note I think I have a 9.9 coming my way

Couple ? about foam I used a volume calculator cubic feet I took the length x half the width by the full depth figuring if you fold one side onto the other it would give you a rectangle hope that make sense and is right. Also whats the general consensus on foam before or after deck

Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

I personally poured foam after I installed the deck. I drilled 3" holes an poured away. Some people use pool noodles for flotation which will have to be put in before, obviously. As far as how much, I would probably stick to your math to figure it out. I used 1 gallon part A and 1 gallon part B and it wasn't quite enough, but at 170 bucks a kid, I opted to leave a little void there. It did fill about 95% of the voids. You have a quite a deep space there. I'm thinking around 3 kits for yours.

Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

I did the deck, all sealed up then cut out holes, poured and then sealed up the whole works...pretty much just like TC^^^did...
I went for the completely sealed deck/hull cavity...if I play my cards right, that foam under there should never see a drop of moisture, but if in 20-30 years I need to dig it up for any reason, I'll be sure to let everyone know how well it held up...:D
Here is a video I threw together of the day I actually did my foam...a bit long in the tooth, but might give you a hint or two as to what's involved...

Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

Yes tc I do plan on using pour in expandable foam but I have read where people put plastic on the bottom of the plywood pour it in and after it hardens move to the next space. I guess to make sure you fill it well I just not sure its worth the extra work. Yes I figured 45 cubic feet and planned on 2 kits
