I believe my gunwales are woven now. I am thinking the 6 oz will help smooth out the existing and maybe less fairing

I've never even thought about dropping anchor on Lake Erie,...

The big schools of fish often keep moving,..

So we always trolled or drifted with them,....

Or troll or drift the structure they may be holding on, If that is the case,....

The only reason we carried an anchor was for safety if we had an engine failure in a big blow,...

So I am getting ready to order my materials to start putting it back together. My question is will adding a layer of 6 oz or something else over the gunwales (which I believe is roving woven) help to smooth out the woven and also aid to smooth out grinding

If the dipzee doodles left from grinding are too wavy you'll need to fill em in with some filler first. the 6 oz cloth won't flatten em out much. it'll just conform to what's under it. it's tighter weave leaves a smoother looking finish is all. Order a couple of quarts of glass bubbles so you can make some filler, mixed with resin to the consistency of mayonaise it makes great filler, sands easily and will make short work of filling any spots that are worrisome.

I have to quit posting in a hurry haha. Thats the outside transom skin from all the grindingto get the wood off there is alot of dips in the fiberglass Need to know how flat it needs to be. With the strait edge put across the skin there is dips about a 1/4" deep
So I guess my question is do i need to grind more and try to get the skin flatter or will the peanut butter make up the differences in the skin. Hope I explained it better

I know I ground out more than 1/4" of that stuff when I had to replace my transom! I ground out all that old thickened resin to get down the the fiberglass fabric of the hull. I didn't know any better, but I think it was probably a lot of unnecessary work.

I think that as long as you have good, solid, pink glass to adhere to, those dips aren't going to hurt anything. Just be sure you put on enough peanut butter to make sure you have no voids. The biggest concern for me would be to make sure the high spots aren't too high to allow you to clamp the transom down to the correct thickness.

Yep ^^^

If you think they might not get filled w/ PB, use the flat side of a trowel to fill them in 1st during the transom install then the rake side to trowel out the PB onto the transom right over the pre-filled lows.

Thanks for the replies everyone especially being as I don't have to grind any more. Now my next question is I ground thru in 3 places and cut thru with sawzall in 2. Sawzall cuts lade with by 1" long grind thru are 1/4" wide by 1/2" hole. Whats the procedure for these repairs

Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

This is how I make quick and easy "Patches".

Grind the cuts all the way around tapering towards the opening. Wipe well with acetone. Use Packing tape on the outside as a barrier. Mix up some thickened resin using cabosil only to the thickness of mayonaise andf fill the cuts with PB using a Putty Knife. Use some wax paper cut strips of 1708 1 1/2" wide and another 4" wide. Place the 4" on the wax paper first then place the 1 1/2" on on top of it centered. Now wet out the whole "Patch" on the paper. Carry it to the cut, and apply it. Use a bondo spreader or plastic putty knife to spread and smooth the patch over the cut, and let it cure for an hour. Peel the paper off and you're done. Hope that makes sense.

Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

I'd just cut up some scraps of CSM and add a bit to the mix. Don't need much. The 1708 will do the trick and then you will be doing some work on the outside later.
