You either need a bilge or deck drains. You WILL get water on your deck and you need to have the ability to get rid of it in addition to a bilge pump.

Re: Deck coating / Turned complete restore

Not a lot of progress with the boat just grinding away I am starting to think of what will be my best finished product gel coat or paint.
I want it to be durable just not sure I want to use gel coat being as It would be first time doing it and what I have read not the easiest thing to do. Would epoxy be good or just some sort of auto paint I appreciate any and all opinions

Well, I perused their site, and their prices are High compared to USComposites. If you could drive to their location and pick up your products that would save you quite a bit on shipping costs so it might be a wash. They don't list their fabric "By the Yard" so you'll need to verify they'll sell it to you that way and not only by the ROLL. Their laminating resin is listed @ $48 bucks a gallon compared to $27.50 @ USC.

I get my products from Infinity Composites in Ashtabula. Going in saves you in shipping and sometimes you can get a deal. I got a 5 gallon "sample" bucket cheap. Not all resin is the same. I really liked the P-19 with P-16 as a close second. Stay away from the P-17. See if Brian will cut you a deal due to the internet exposure. ;) For epoxy I went with US Composites.

Hi jc I seen that place mentioned them in post 204 I plan on calling them to see if they can beat there internet price they seem way high compared to us composites upwards of double unless I'm making a mistake .
I know I can not gel coat over epoxy but can you epoxy paint over poly resin

You can definitely epoxy paint over poly resin. It's basically what we do when we paint the exterior. Finding an epoxy paint with UV protection is another story if you're a perfectionist. The knee jerk reaction is to discard the epoxy paint, but people have been shooting their hot rods in PPG DP90 flat black for years....but at the same time they don't walk all over them ;) It gets a little chalky over time, as will the white, but you garage store yours and seem to take care of it.

The Duraplate 235 I used has a 6 month recoat window, but I'm not sure how it will hold up to abrasion under foot. Heck, house paint would probably be best and easiest to touch up!

I never got an answer on my thread about resin differences. There was a night and day difference between the p-19 and p-17 in Fiberlay. How much more difference between a $30 can of white label "boat yard resin" and a resin you can lay over corners? If anyone had comparisons between actual brands and model numbers, I'd like to hear them.

Amazon sells Fiberlay resin by the 5 gallon for $30 shipping.

But the good news is I believe grinding is done enough to get the transom and deck in. If anyone sees something I dont let me know maybe just some clean up thanks for looking
