Re: Center console deck repair

Really like your center console. I just finished removing all the foam from my boat also, going to cut out the new deck pieces and stringers tomorrow. Can't wait to see some more of this boat.

Gasoline is far more flammable than polyester fumes.

Well the good news is the fuel tank was full of fuel so I guess it does not leak. I emptied the tank and its back in the garage. Tomorrow I will start to remove the foam and the tank

Ahmincha, What a persistance. took me 2 days to follow this thread but I enjoyed it a lot.
Amazing how you started from zero and reached here.
No less amazing is the support you been given by folks here, and specially by Jigngrub who also directed me to this post.
me too looking forward to see more updates and the finished product.
By the way, when did all that start and how long its been running? how often a week were you working on your project?

Re: Center console deck repair

You are 100% right about the support we receive here on iboats Its incredible I hope that one day I learn enough that I can repay my debt of knowledge I receive to some one else.
I bought the boat on 12/15/12 all I know about the boat is what the po has told me. He was the second owner owned it since 1986.
He said it hads not ran in the past 5 years engine was kept in dry warm storage where I picked it up The po told me that the power head had been rebuilt at some point he could not remember when (He is in his 80s) The floor had some soft spots that of coarse I thought this will be a easy fix I'll reach under add some supports and be on my way famous last words haha. I have not put as much time into the boat as I would like to as I have a classic car in the garage that was suppose to be the winter project so space was limited and I got tired of pulling boat out every time I had anything else to do in the garage. So I just removed the car from the garage to make permanent space so let the fun begin. I am hoping to have it done by end of winter We all know how that goes big dreams small reality. Sorry for the ramble I would like to thank every one that has given me advise and encouragement I hope I do not disappoint with the rebuild

To be honest with you minch... no, and it looks like you have the boat reacked out of whack.

Can't tell from the pics, but does your transom glass look bowed in or out?

If you have lifted the boat 3-1/2" at each bunk, it should be lifted 3-1/2" at the keel too. What you have isn't much more support than what the trailer was giving it... plus it's racked. You also need support for your sidewalls.

I suggest turning the boat over on your flat slab and building something like Decker83 did in post 52:

http://forums.iboats.com/boat-resto...-deck-stringer-replacement-help-471173-3.html

Or maybe something like denlynn built in post #15:

http://forums.iboats.com/boat-restoration-building-hull-repair/my-project-74-ebbtide-584261.html

I fear you'll have problems if you leave your boat like that.

I actually didnt lift the boat 3.5" I adjusted the bunks to where they made contact to all possible points I will ck the transom to see if it is bowed

Re: Center console deck repair

transom is flat as I said I moved the bunks up to where they meet the boat within 2" of the existing stringers on both sides with 2x4 on edge and under the keel there is rollers and I laid a 2x4 flat over the rollers and adjusted them to touch the keel I have not cut anything structural out of the boat yet just the foam. So if I have to beef up my support system I will do that before proceeding.

Re: Center console deck repair

Ok, sounds good.

Before you start tearing out, measure from your chine down to the floor slab in your garage in 3 or 4 places on eack side of the boat. Mark where you measure on the boat and slab and write the measurement down. After you've torn out the stringers measure again to make sure you have the same dimension.

Also measure from port to starboard at the gunwales before starting and check that measurement too.

Building a boat back in a warped twister position is a very bad thing and it has happened to a couple of guys on here in the not so distant past.
