Re: Center console deck repair

You'll have to excuse me but what is a chine

chinepaint_zpsc4791126.jpg

It's the bottom outside corner of your hull.

It can sag or raise depending on the load and stresses on your hull after the stringers are removed.

Re: Center console deck repair

Do you plan to keep the trailer hanging all the time, or are you going to put it on the slab?

You could put a 2x4 under the chine and then put three 2x4 props under it from the floor up to support it on each side.

No I plan on putting it on the slab on the other side of my garage now that I kinda have it shored up plus once I start removing the stringers it will stay put so your idea of supporting to the slab will work out swell thank you for all your help and concern

So I removed all the foam and gas tank wasa not as bad as I thought it would be I used A post hole digger ram it into the foam and pried itself against the foam came out in big chunks clean to the hull. Just have to be careful not to ram it in to far and hit the hull

Either way will work. I personally prefer to laminate 1/2". What material are you using for the stringers?

Re: Center console deck repair

You are 100% right about the support we receive here on iboats Its incredible I hope that one day I learn enough that I can repay my debt of knowledge I receive to some one else.
I bought the boat on 12/15/12 all I know about the boat is what the po has told me. He was the second owner owned it since 1986.
He said it hads not ran in the past 5 years engine was kept in dry warm storage where I picked it up The po told me that the power head had been rebuilt at some point he could not remember when (He is in his 80s) The floor had some soft spots that of coarse I thought this will be a easy fix I'll reach under add some supports and be on my way famous last words haha. I have not put as much time into the boat as I would like to as I have a classic car in the garage that was suppose to be the winter project so space was limited and I got tired of pulling boat out every time I had anything else to do in the garage. So I just removed the car from the garage to make permanent space so let the fun begin. I am hoping to have it done by end of winter We all know how that goes big dreams small reality. Sorry for the ramble I would like to thank every one that has given me advise and encouragement I hope I do not disappoint with the rebuild

thanks for the reply. Looks i am gonna be in the same route as you. I am not great with tools but I think I can manage. But before that I need to read alot and understand all the english new words (as it is not my first language...) but I am katching up fast I hope...

when I start my project, it will be your time to repay the forum and give feedbacks :)

The weight of the stringers is minute compared to the boats overall weight, and I don't care how much 3/4" plywood you use... your boat is still going to be a lot lighter when you're done compared to how much it wieghed with all that water, wet wood, and wet foam in it before your started tearing that junk out.

You can use the vinylester if you want, but the regular marine grade polyester resin is fine and that's what your boat is made out of.

Re: Center console deck repair

This should be a pretty good start for your Materials
This is approximate for a 16' hull, doing Deck, Stringers and Transom

3 to 4 sheets of Arauco 3/4" plywood.
25 yds of 1.5 oz CSM
15 yds of 1708
15 gals of Poly Resin
10 qts of Cabosil
1 lb of 1/4" Chopped Strand
Bubble Roller
Lots of Latex gloves or Nitrile gloves
Mixing buckets
metric measuring cups
Large Scissors
Masking Tape
This will get you close.

On page 3 post 73 show a the original foam is the a reason the foam doesn't fill the bow area? And when I redo everything should i fill the area?
