Awesome looking trailer! I have the same one but could only hope when I decide to restore it, that it looks as nice as yours. Your pictures are inspiring and make me want to go work on mine now. Great work.

Let me know how that bow stop works out for you, since it is rollers like the rest of the trailer. Mine is actually a stop.

HA - It's been so long since you worked on the SS, I've forgotten where you are with her. But the trailer is looking good. At least it's a Starcraft now.

Thanks...I hear ya GA...I need to get back to the boat before EZ moves this thread over to "trailers and towing" :D

I've got sticker shock!

Glad you like the decals Triton. Hope all is well down under mate!:)

Nice dood:D

Thanks Jason. Sure wish I'd finished the trailers first like you did.

Very classy!

Thanks Mike. I like the white stickers too. I have some yellow ones that need a home too. Not sure what to do with those since I'm gonna use the factory badges on the boat.

Thanks nrf...trailers are a pain but also a necessary evil. Good luck with yours!

I think this heavier bow stop is gonna be great. It should keep the bow locked in place very well and it's from a huge glasser rig. Plenty strong:) (thanks again Jason)

Thanks Glen! I have been tinkering with the guide bunks lately. As soon as they are satisfactory I will get back to the SS pronto.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've had a full plate lately, travelling much more than normal for work and other stuff.

Most recently we were up in Petoskey for a memorial pig roast, in honor of a buddy who went down in a chopper in Afghanistan back in august. He was a member of SEAL Team 6 and very much deserving of some post-humous recognition.

Thanks for stopping by fellas, hopefully I will have the boat back on the trailer soon enough so I can work on the interior all winter long in the garage. We plan on actually using the boat next spring:facepalm::D

All right, I kinda felt compelled to post this...

When you do a Google search for Gluvit, then click on images, you find a whole variety of metal boats being rebuilt. Mixed in you'll find a shot of this guy...

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Well the long arduous process of clearing out the garage has been completed:)

We flipped the SS over yesterday and managed to get her back on the trailer.

Not without significant delays and problems of course:D

I will get some photos up later when I get home from work.

The biggest issue was that the stern rollers needed to be moved closer together to support the bow correctly. They were above the chines at first, quick fix there.

Then we realized that the bow stop was too close to the tongue, so it got moved back a good 6" to the stern.

After that the boat fit well and is now in the garage for the winter. I took the guide bunks off, and looking at it now they will fit perfectly. Just need to get them carpeted and bolted in place. Those things will make launching and retrieving a walk in the park:)

I'm headed up north for rifle season tonight, so no updates for a little while...nothing new there:facepalm:

Winter projects will include building a box to house the 18 gallon above-deck fuel tank, bolting in the side panels, consoles, dash, and wiring the whole rig up.

I'm hoping to find a reasonably priced 50-70hp Yamaha, probably will end up paying the springtime premium in March or April.

Looking forward to checking some items off the list again soon! :)

I neglected to mention that we've been spotting three different 8pt bucks on our trail cams...so I'm hoping to have the freezer full before long:D

Jason...since you've taken two years off deer hunting to work on boats, I'll try to get a little extra jerky and sausage.:)

Great snacks to eat while fishing on tin boats;)

I'm back from hunting up north, got a nice doe and had some fun:)

Here are some photos of the flipping procedure.

The finished trailer(except for the wiring), with the guide bunks removed temporarily.

The rollers needed to be adjusted, as did the bow stop. Everything went smoothly and the rollers made it easy.

Here she is sitting better with the bow stop moved about 6" back. This will help shallow launching too:D

I should be ready to install the transom and CMC bracket one of these days soon. I've got all the stainless bolts and 5200 on hand.

I need to check and make sure the garage door will still shut with another 6.5" added:facepalm:

One concern I have is that the bow stop lets the boat sit pretty close to the steel roller supports.

Not sure if there is any easy fix, or if it won't be a problem.

I wouldn't want the trailer set up like that,...

Your going to want the transom of the boat to be supported by the last roller,....Leaving it the way it is will put a lot of strain on the transom while trailering,...

I'd push that boat around at different angles as if you were loading it and see if it actually hits. If it does, or it's too close for comfort, you could always cut those roller supports off and drill out holes for a bow stop. Ya know?

Good to have her back in the garage for winter progress man:)

That roller support would make me nervous too. When I got my boat, one side of the hull at the bow was all banged up from a mismounted trailer jack. That looks pretty close.

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Hello to all Starcrafters enjoying this thread.

I ran across this posting yesterday, looking for an original picture of a 1979 Smokercraft. (Please dont be angry)
My smokercraft looks way to similar in Color, shape, Style, Rotted transom.

Well it is now6 hours of reading and looking up parts and rethinking Half (most of my rebuild). I was finally at page79,when i hit the (next Button) and nothing happened. Have i caught up with everything?

The Boat is back on the trailer (Liking the no paint look). The trailer is looking good and looks like the boat sits a little lower.

I do not mean for my first post to be A hyjacker or anything like that but Ha you have done EVERYTHING i wanted to do. RESPECT

Welcome gene. Smoker and Starcraft were both started by the same (Schrock) family and hulls are similar if not nearly identical. So definitely check out the Starcraft section of this site and all the great Starcraft restos going on. We've got a full list of them down there. We'd love to see pics of your project also.
