Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

What? No Slam'in Salmon pics? ;)

I like burn'in gas!

Great progress bro!

I'm sad to report that we didn't land any Chinook:(

A guy did get a 18lb salmon out of Presque Isle according to a DNR officer we chatted with, so that's good to know.

Thanks Bcast!

Nice work trailer is looking great

Hey thanks Yooper, this trailer work is not that exciting. Thanks for stopping by!

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Despite the fact that I participated in a bachelor party that started at noon yesterday...

...I managed to drink some coffee this morning and get a few things done on the trailer.

Here are the photos. Nothing to write home about, but forward progress is good.

I had a great helper, and a new 200 piece mechanics Craftsmen socket set:D

My helper is a Lions fan, and it was a good day to be one.

Here's the old winch post, we removed the old white/pink rope, and then the winch itself.

Some more photos of the winch stand progress.

I'm gonna hobble together the old winch crank onto the heavy stand that Jason hooked me up with.:)

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I painted the winch stand with Rustoleum smoke grey, same as the trailer.

Painted the grass here a bit too:redface:

So I tried using some random plywood. It helped but still some black grass in the yard now.

Roslynn says that the fenders would look nicer if they were black also, any opinions?

Here's what I ended up doing with the guide bunk posts.

They will still be lowered probably, depending on where the side of the hull ends up resting.

If you look closely you can see some pieces from the bunk supports jasoutside gave me(thanks again:)).

They found a new use, since the posts needed to be spaced out wider for the boat to fit.

Some more coats of paint on trailer parts, photos from yesterday.

The trailer should be done soon, and I've been getting better and better at wiring, so the lights might even work:D

Final coat on a few pieces tonight, should be ready to bolt back in place soon.

These are the holes that I drilled out so the guide bunks can be bolted in securely.

These took forever to drill, and some bees were attracted by the ruckus too:facepalm:

Good thing we got the electronic flyswatter from HF for $3:D

Boy was that some fun...anyways...I have some marine carpet leftover from the teardown that will work nicely on the mini-bunks:)

Thanks...I think:D My neighbor said it's ok with him if I paint the grass a bit, but I still try to get some plywood down:)

Ya know...I've heard that you guys have had issues with invasive species. We have the asian carp, zebra mussel and gobies:(

Who's doing the work, and who's doing the pics??? Just saying this isn't the first time we've had reason to question who's getting his/her hands dirty.

LOL...I did have some help holding the winch crank in place for about 4-5 seconds so I could take a picture;)

The paint job's really looking sharp!!

Thanks LL, just tryin to keep up with you and Jason:)

Just a quickie, HA. What brand of self-etching primer did you use on the grass? It's a good thing you used Citri-Strip or the brown spots and painted spots would clash. I take a week of vacation and come back and you're still painting grass ( and a trailer ) LOL. The black/gray combo is nice. I vote for black fenders.

Well now, that wasn't exactly the use I had in mind with those bunk brackets. But, uh, well, I have been known to use interesting materials in creative ways for boat building - so yah, I have absolutely nothing to say about that:p:D

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I managed to get over to Tractor Supply and buy some trailer parts after work today.

I found 2 good U bolts for the winch stand. It will be pretty solid, since I drilled out the holes and stepped up to 1/2" bolts.

That stand is very heavy, so it will keep the boat where it needs to be and also add some tongue weight.

Now I just need to find that old beat-up rope to wrap back onto the winch:p

Just kidding, I will be looking for a good deal on a seat-belt type cable. I'm not a fan of using rope or metal cable.

We've got a wedding to attend tomorrow, and I'm off to St. Louis for work training all next week...so this might be all the progress for a bit unfortunately.

I feel the same as GA...definitely been working on this dang trailer for too long.:)
