Seems Photobucket has made some changes?

I used to just copy one pic and paste the link they create like so
i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j414/Trooper8282/DSCF0320.jpg....then just change the pic numbers...

I see they have added some extra characters now.. like "._zps38cae882" they must be doing that to make it tough to down load an entire album with a bot?

see below..

You also may need to refresh your cache..

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I think the random 'file name' photobucket is assigning your pix is the new default... At some point, around the time they rolled out the new & improved better (which for me is none of the above) photobucket, I was in my acct settings & randomize file name was 1 of the choices I could select (I did BTW)....

If you look at an email update from iboats, in the body of the post, the photobucket info is included. I suspect the change is so I can't cut & paste the info from an email, and gain access to someone else's photobucket acct.

Which is good, because these guys might make a mess of the joint:

You might be able to change the 'switch' back to make it easier for you to post pix the way you used to. I prefer to just have my photobucket acct open in a separate tab or window, that way if I want to upload or copy pix to of from it's easy. And my file names are randomized :)

Here is what happened while you were away: Photobucket decided it wanted to suck.... (fortunately, you can opt out and go back to the old version).

Oh, and since you are on the only person on this board that has seen my garage in person, I am sure you can understand my garage envy about right now...

That is all...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks for the compliments on the new man cave fellas....I am very happy with it...never had one before, feel like a kid in a candy store :)

SO... propane folks brought a huge 400lb tank....it wouldn't fit on retaining wall...they installed a 200lb tank and promised to bring a second one...going to lean on my northern brothers to help me figure out how to get the best of both worlds...a warm garage and an unempty pocket...

temp was 32 in the garage...13 outside when I lit the furnace...ran it on the thermostat @72 till it hit 55 degrees then backed it off to 55. heat ycled on/off in ten minute increments first few times I checked it...thinking it was actually getting longer between cycles before I callled it an evening. I was able to work in a tshirt with a long sleeve shirt, longjohns and jeans...2 yrs in Alaska..Army taught us to dress in layers...it helps..so anyway I was very comfy considering the outside temps...ice/snow was melting off the hull...

I decided to leave it running overnight at 50 degrees...think this is a waste? if so should I turn it off completely or set it lower?

I got the inside of the boat cleaned out...
DSCF0322.jpg

Before leaving the south, I wrapped my fiberglass rolls in 3 sheets of plastic...thought for sure it would be fine for the trip. I had however not thought about needing to store it outside...under the stars for nearly a month...the boats cover was riddled with holes from the trip too..but as you saw in pics yesterday it was sitting in a couple inches of ice..well it seems it was wet at one time...both rolls are solid ice :( pretty sure it is scrap now right?

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I'm sorry to say you are likely correct on the fiberglass... If it's frozen it will be tough to unwrap & see if there is any salvageable close to the center of the roll..... But been wet = makes it difficult to wet out w/ resin correctly..

If you can 'afford' the 40-45 temps in the garage leave it on, just lower. Keeps the freezing temps away, and it won't take so long rewarm it to 55+/-. Every drop in temp requires longer to re-warm to 55+/-...

I thought the hull still had snow in it, but it's 'just' the resin discolored white, right?

You're leaving the horizontal 2X4's on the wall when you D/W right? Might see if you can get 1" styro sheets to fill in between them. Any extra insulation is a benefit when it's 5F +/- outside........ Styro is cheaper then the pink/blue sheets... And if not now, insulate the garage door too..........

Again, sorry to hear about the glass....

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I was planning on fiberglass bats between the dw and current foam insulation...figured it would help in the long run with heating costs..may take a few years to recoup though...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Yeah, I just thought you were calc'ing the studs needed because you were going to build a 2X4 wall up against the existing wall & bat between the new studs. At @$16 per sheet another R4 of styro insulation would help tucked into the grid work of those flat 2X on the walls already..

I suspect it won't take nearly as long as you think living in the north, if you use the garage much in the winter. :smow:

And more insulation would make a $150 A/C window unit work better in the summer too....:tan:

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Out of curiosity, and to help answer the age old question...
I emailed US Composites about what to do with wet fiberglass cloth...
I didn't get into specific details about the type of mat, but his answer is as follows...

"If it is a woven cloth, unroll it and dry it with a fan blowing on it and this should dry fine. If it is a chopped mat, it will lose strength and become very brittle and hard to use, because the starch binder has been compromised."

I will contact them again and ask specifically about 1708 and 1.5oz. CSM...
Will report back soon...

Saweet mother of garages!! That is a nice shop you got there Troop! My new house has a 2.5 car garage, insulated with drywall (I can't wait) I stopped over there the other day to see about a few things and the guy I'm buying it from had his painters painting the garage because he couldn't stand it not finished (oh the horrors ) Anyway, the painter had a 50,000 btu propane heater going in there (it was 25 out) and it was about 80 degrees. He said it was the smallest heater he had. With that in mind, if you got the walls insulated and drywall up I bet it won't cost too much to keep it heated at a comfortable temp. I'm planning on installing a small wall heater in mine for next winter.

sorry to hear about the glass, hope some of it is salvageable.

Thanks Craig...I'm liking that's for sure! Ya really think I will put up some drywall and squeeze in some fiberglass insulation...should be able to keep it nice and toasty in winter months...and like JB said, a small window AC should keep it plenty cool to boot...

Heya fanny...it is 32x30 30 is the width...We are residing in Northeast PA...small historical town of Tunkhannock...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Turned up the heat to 60....ate some grub and went out to a nice warm garage..sure beats the old hoop house I had in LA!

Starting looking at the boat and could tell she was feeling neglected....so found my sanding supplies and started doing some sanding...

ondarvr suggested I sand it down before applying gel over what I sprayed last fall...wish I knew then what I kow now...gel isn't paint...if you sand fiberglass in prep for gel, make sure you put some fairing material down and sand it again before spraying gel...take your time...put more than one or two coats...or you will end up with this...

pits...bleed through...highspots....what an amatuer...but hey this is one way t learn I guess...it did start to sine though...and glad I went with gel, I like the slick smooth feeling....and it is pretty tough too..
DSCF0323.jpg

different angle...tried to get the reflection of the lights...camera did not focus too god...you can see the texture of the light lens...in person anyway...
DSCF0324.jpg

Question: do I need to sand it down this far or further? and just the first grit...meaning I am not trying to finsh it am I?..before the next spray to fix all the lows?

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Sorry about the wet glass Troop . I had some wet glass a while back and had to grind it off . It never really wet out with resin . As far as the gel goes my very uneducated thinking is a you would just need to sand enough for a good bond on the next coat . Build up layers so you can sand the op without going through to the glass . Hopefully someone will chime in with an educated answer ..
