motor won't crank

Have a 1981 35hp evinrude that is getting fir at the plusgs but won't crank. gave it a small shot of starting fluid once and it sputtered but it won't do it again. Going to try to find a compression tester tomorrow. what kind of ideas do ya'll have?

Go to the Top Secret file at the top of this forum. Do "Outboard won't start".

Let us know what you find.

Don't use starting fluid. It does not have lubricant in it and can quickly damage your engine..just use freshly mixed oil/gas mix.
