Nice score on the machines Troop ! Wish I could have found a better one when I did my seats . The work bench is nice and surely will come in handy. Maybe add a lower shelf for more storage

The Singer is a WORK HORSE. You will NOT have any issues sewing thru multiple layers of vinyl. You got a Great Deal!!!! Now...buy some vinyl and get busy.

Troop what score those old singers are made to last and there is no comparrison to the newer design. I have been on the hunt for a set-up like that to replace my scholastic 212.

Troop you need to practice Back Stitching so you can lock your stitches when you begin and end a stitch run. Raise the presser foot, Raise the need till the tread releases, pull the material back a couple of inches then back to about an inch from the end of the material and sew back over the previous stitches. This Locks em n so they won't come out. Since you don't have feed dogs you can also just HOLD the material so the WF doesnt feed it and sew a couple of stitches on top of each other to lock em. Takes some practice with out breaking the thread. JDA taught me that on his old Singer.

That is a good tip woody...and Jda...

SP I think I got the tension figured out...only instructions I have found for threading the machine are a video on youtube...three loops through the thread guide holes on top seemed to make it too tight...I ended up just going through one of the holes and can use the tensioner to make adjustments now...

guess I need to start thinking about seating and trim now :)

Thanks Wood....I have found the manual on the Singer site along with a parts manual.....they explain how to thread it, but it written in old timey english....having a hard time understanding exactly what they are saying....just taking a break, will post it later....

building another workbench :)

Edit: just noticed you mention the free downloads....but only one link in your post :(

working now...thanks...

so, I have been working on a bench all day/night...thoiught I had 2 pieces of furniture grade plywood...the doors off the cabinet that was in the garage when we moved in...turns out they are particle board covered in oak veneer....glued them together anyway...hope they will do what I want...if not I guess the first one will be the bench for vice....grinder...drill press....

tired..going to bed...wonder if GT is still at it?

How r the legs attached? Got any Bar Clamps? Is it the table or the floor? You could buy one of these...

That's if you don't want to try and fix it.
