Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

BEEEEYOOOUUUUUTEEEEFULLLL Day....Hope you all had the same great weather we had here in Central Louisiana!

Woke the admiral up at 7:30 with the saw right out side her window....sorry hun....

Started out with fitting the main support for the fishing deck....Cut it out and thought it was 2" to narrow...so made another...when working with a curve (bow) a little trimming ends up being alot...snuck up on it the second time around...should have listened to that voice in my head...measure twice...cut once...ended up being like 1/4" longer than the first one...

After I got the piece shaped...I swear I climbed in and out of the boat a hundred times...started a dry run fitting all the parts...seen I needed to chamfer a few spots...
DSCF0263.jpg

Then I got started on the step...wanted to have all the glassing parts ready at the same time...but wanted as much warm weather as I could get...glued in some blocks to hold it all together before glassing...
DSCF0264.jpg

Radiused off all the corners...wish I had a router!....Oh well my course (80G) handmade block worked out well...took a regular block with 120 to smooth it out...
DSCF0265.jpg

Propped up the front...then glassed all sides...got all the raduis' covered good...I think it turned out well...
DSCF0266.jpg

got the main brace glassed on both sides...
DSCF0267.jpg

put some blocks down on the deck to give me something to line all the parts up with...3M 5200 in all the holes...doubt I will glass these...unless you all think I should? ...blocks to lift the front brace off the deck before PB goes in...

More to come in next post....

Thanks JB...I thought so too....besides...makes me forget about the back hurting...

Troop, looks perfect man. Also, looks like your drink ratio is 1/2 a 5th to 12oz of coke.

Thanks Jitterbug...I have had a drink 3 or 4 times this week...same bottle...so looks are deceiving...

Thanks SP...I was happy with the outcome...hope to get it all tabbed in tomorrow...

Just getting caught up, WOW!...Looking awesome!

A thought, if I may...you know how we are always hearing that you can NEVER have enough storage in a boat...well my idea is to use the space under the step as a small storage compartment...hinged and latched......:sorry:...

Happy Monday!:D

Got the fishing platform PB & tabbed in today...I figure 1 layer of csm with a layer of 1708 will hold it good enough...

Got is mostly cleaned out...will finish this week...also have to put a layer or two of 1708 down in the bottom of the locker...that will have to wait for this weekend...

Have a great week all!

Work looks awesome!

That foam shaped bullet in the ski locker was interesting.... But sounds like its not anything serious...

Keep at it...it's coming together great!

Thanks PMC...I think it was just foam leaking out of the compartment forward of the ski locker...I'm sure I put a piece of PVC in there....I must not have sealed it on though :(

Nice job cutting out the ski locker.

Thanks JBC...I am at a crossroads with the work up front...I sanded the carp out of the lid edges the other day...in anticipation of putting CSM on them and the inside edgle of the holes...have yet to do the holes...and they are almost too tight now....may end up grinding on the holes....don't want to redo glass work if I can help it...

Haven't been on for a few days. Your work is real professional. I was looking at the step and couldn't believe you didn't use a router.
You have definitely mastered the glassing. It all looks great. Very well built fishing deck and step. You keep going like this and it will be splash day sooner than you think. That's just some really great work. :peace:

Holy Cow Trooper, I will say you sure did have a great day. This warm weather moving through our area is awesome for boat restoration. Love the box and as usual you have gone way above and beyond with quality. Now that is the kind of wood working I wish I could do. I will just have to keep reading, looking at photos and practicing. Very, Very Nice Work. Congrats.

I totally know what you mean by you're gonna miss it when it is done. :sorrow: :grouphug:

So what is the real purpose of the ski locker? Is it just storage? I use to think it was where the pole connected that you attached the ski rope to, but the ones I have seen on here appear more for storage. Just wondering.

Pourin' it on thick there Decker...but Thanks a bunch...glassing has a long way to go ....would look so much better if I actually measured things before i cut them...

Thanks for the kind words AJ...you could do it too, just takes a tablesaw...I will use the locker for storage...

Thanks SP...no I will not roll gelcoat after the fuel locker and deck...fuel turned out ok, but deck has been a nightmare...maybe it would have been better with a different brush...but the one's I use didn't work....unless of coarse if you spray PVA after rolling it...that might work...but not just relying a wax...never again here....

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

The sun held the rain at bay today...so got the last of the boat work done that is going to happen in Louisiana....

Did some grindinmg/sanding on the keyhole to get it flat within tolerence...not fun...got it close enough for what I needed to do for now...and that is get the moter mounts put in so I can bolt the motor down for the trip...not putting the outdrive on yet...so didn't worry about getting everything installed....this is just to make the trip up north...the engine will be coming out again...

Transom plate instlled...still have some grinding to get the area flat is it needs to be, but I was burning daylight...and didn't have the right tools to do it the way it needs done....
DSCF0279.jpg

unless I have something awry....the mounts I built are about 1-1/2" to 2" too short...so made some blocks to hold them up...
DSCF0280.jpg

according to the manual I have ...the fiber(leather) washer goes on top of the transom plate and below the rear motor mounts...It also said to put the washer then the spacer on the bolt before installing it...
DSCF0281.jpg

this look right? looks to me like the front of motor needs to go down some...
DSCF0300.jpg

son-in-law was helping ....almost finished...
DSCF0282.jpg

and here it is...

DSCF0301.jpg

I threw a shower curtain over it and tied a string to hold it in place...should be good for the long haul....
