Wow NB those are some real trophies you bagged. Leave some for the rest of us eh:D

What gauge of wire cable do you use for the drum? Are those tasty?

Those drum are so old and spend so much time on the bottom, I'm not eatin one of them!!! We just let the DNR tag em and back they go. That fish was probably 45-50 years old. Now the striper is another story:D

OK back to work!

I made a trip to town for more sanding disks and started around 1:00. Got the port side sanded and now it's done.

That's two 22 footers for me this summer! That's enough. Plus all that blasting on the inside of the Mariner!

Then I broke out the marine tex to repair a big gouge on the top side of the starboard chine. Looked like someond drove a broom handle into it. Plus there was some long gouges that didn't go all the way thru but I figured while I had it stripped I might as well dress it up a little. You just double wipe with acetone and build it up with the MT and after it dries, sand it down.

I should add something here about the marine tex. Man, that stuff is difficult to mix. The directions say go with a 5 to 1 ratio. The resin, or whatever MT calls it sticks like heck to everything it touches. Almost impoossible to measure the stuff out. So I finally gave up and broke out the Ohaus Triple Beam scales I use for measuring glue mixtures for my bow building hobby and weighed the crap! You're almost better off buying the small kit, mixing it all up, and throwing away whatever you can't use.

Even with the scales I had to mix way more than I needed so I decided to experiment with the nickel sized hole and the smaller rivet holes in the transom. I spooged some MT in the big hole and feathered in on the inside to give it some bite and then placed a big piece of duct tape on the inside as a backing and filled the hole. Tomorrow I'll sand it down and see how she did! If it doesn't hold, I'll sand it all off and we're back to the possible welding.

Looks like a solid day of work buddy! I am looking forward to seeing how your MT sets up and sands out as I have a variety of patch type issues that need my attention.

Nice job!

OK, we're finally turning the corner from demolition to restoration!!!!!!

I went at the marine tex repairs with the sander first thing this morning.

Looks like it's gonna hold up just fine on the transom. Man that stuff is hard as a rock. I still have a low spot so tomorrow evening I'll mix up another batch and do a light skim and wait for it to dry.

Next I did a little touch up on the sanding job and blew the entire boat off with the leaf blower. Then she got a good scrubbing with the brush and a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar.

The only thing left to do after that was hit it with the ZC. So now that the zc is on, I'll let it set for 48 hours while I finish up the marine tex work and it's Petitt Easypoxy Undercoater time!!!!

Oh yeah, for those of you keeping score it took almost 7 cans of ZC.

Nice work, you are really zipping along on this project:)

I can tell that you enjoy the sanding so much that you bought a deeper V just to get some more surface area to work with:D

Great work NB. I have a little scratch on my starboard side that needs sanding and retouching. When are you next out this way? :)

Making progress NB! Make sure to detail EXACTLY what you use and how as you go through the paint sequence. I've almost got my pos primer off my boat and will be taking another whack at it, so I'm watching you close:eek: Waht colors are you going to use?

It means i try conversing with you N.B and I have yet to get any answers to some previous questions asked! I think they were simple questions!

Jealous???? NO...... Interested in the outcome? Yes.... Do I like how N.B does things? Yes...... I think he does things in a nice professional type manner....

And i give credit when credit is due!!!! Just for the record for the people who are taking notes....
