Re: 75 Starcraft Islander 22 I/O to CC Conversion
OK I figured before I got badgered by certain folks for inactivity, I should try and accomplish something. The wind's been blowing fairly hard for the last two days and today we are at 96 degrees with just a slight breeze so I moved the boat into the shade, taped off the rub rail insert, and blew it off with the leaf blower.
The next step was to lightly sand all the zc wih some 500 grit sandpaper. I have a roll of 200 and 500 and the large sanding blocks like the automotive paint guys use left over from the LL project. I should have enough left to do about 300 boats.
After the light (emphasis on light) sanding, I blew it with the leaf blower again and hit it with several tack cloths. I feel the zc sanding is needed due to the inconsistancy in texture in the zc. That stuff comes out almost like it has grit in it sometimes and I made the mistake of not sanding the ZC on the LL project and the grit telegraphed up thru the undercoater. Here's a shot of all the loose junk the tack cloths picked up.
The next step was dragging all the stuff out to actually spray some undercoater. After gathering up the airline extension, paint guns, mixer, spraying thinner, and all my respirator and paint suit I realized that instead of the needed 2 1/2 quarts of undercoater, I only have 1 1/2 guarts. DANGIT!!!
Oh well, I figured I'd shoot what I could since I already had all that junk piled up out by the boat. I'm shooting the primer outside and I'll move things inside for the actual paint operation.
So just like last time, I mixed 2.5 ounces of Petitt Spraying Thinner to every 16 ounces of Undercoater and went at it. Here's what we got!
I really wish I could have gotten the sides done but I'll get em. The lying weather man is calling for thunderstorms here for the next couple of days so that will give me time to have the stuff shipped in. GEEZ. I've got all the paint I need and I have to keep waiting on the danged undercoater.
