Ooooh, very neat and clean looking. BTW, where did you get the 6 fuse box? Is it from NAPA?

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

Thank you sir for the kindest of words!

Durabak comes in many colors... They do offer off white.

Now off to the garage to continue quest. I think I'll mount the fish finder / depth gauge. Still pondering the tranducer inside the hull.

Then I need to calculate wiring runs, gauge and color...

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

Tonight's progress,

My friend Patrick and I installed some bling on the Bayliner,

jse_08MAR09_067.jpg

We installed starboard and port side cleats for docking, and fender hanging. Port side docking with bow cleat would have been difficult with trolling motor installed. I like the idea of hanging fenders at the side apex's of the boat.

Installed plug style raised bow light. Needed to be raised due to trolling motor height, this makes red port light visible.

Also installed stainless through hull bilge fitting, chrome bilge vents, and horn cover. Mark and I have the same taste! Stainless looks better than white plastic.

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

Is that cleat the Attwood stainless through bolted cleat? I was thinking of replacing the chrome cleats on the Bayliner with the Attwood stainless cleat. I called Attwood about it and they said it is supplied to a few different boat manufacturers as an OEM item.

Its got a nice contemporary look that looks nice on a lot of boats.

Attwood 6" stud mount cleat:

Hi Mark,

Yes there from Attwood. The same cleat in the pic you sent 6". I also was thinking about replacing the other 3 on the Bayliner so they all match... My stock cleats have screws visible from the top-side...

Looking very sweet. Now I want new cleats and such. I really like the way your deck turned out. Look forward to seeing her complete.

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

Bear -- Great thread and great work!

Question for you -- regarding the binding on the carpet -- am I correct that the binding is the upholsterer taking all of the edges and putting and edge of some sort on it? Is it cheaper to buy your own carpet and have an upholsterer do that as opposed to buying a snap in carpet made for your boat (I'm guessing that it is). If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying the upholsterer to do that?

Also, where did you get your carpet?

In keeping with my questions on the pricing of all this... how much does Durabak cost?

Sorry if I'm being nosey here.. just curious... I may do the snap-in carpet on my boat.. I like the idea of buying your own carpet and having an upholsterer bind it.. seems like a major cost saver.

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

Thank's JaSla, (the cleats be sweet!) and Cptkid for the nice comments about the project.

Binding is put on around carpet edges so it doesn't fray. it's a strip of heavy duty fabric about an inch wide that they sew around the edges. The upholstery shop didn't give me a price yet. I would imagine less than $100 for time, snaps and material. I'll let you know. The carpet I purchased was from Cabelas. I believe I have less than $100 total in that as well... Also used on my casting deck, doghouse, and aft storage compartments. I would also guess if offered from the factory, snap-in carpet would be more expensive than my venture. I'm just not sure?

I have 3 gal of Durabak on my deck, and seat bases. The total cost was ~$330 with shipping. Something like that...

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

I'd imagine that a boat dealer would probably charge at least $800 for snap-in carpet. How you are doing it is the way to go. I can't wait to see how the carpet turns out. My wife wants me to put snap-in carpet in my project boat when it's complete. I don't have any problems with that, but I don't want to spend too much on it. I like the idea of being able to remove it easily and having it snap in too.

Oh, I love your baracuda too! Awesome job on that!

I should have the carpet back next week! Also decided to do snap-in carpet for the doghouse.

That 'Cuda was a labor of love for sure... Every nut and bolt, or part on the car was either NOS, restored, or replaced with new repro stuff. My friend Scott who painted the 'Cuda is a GOD! The pictures don't come close to doing it justice...

I'd sure like to see your project... Have a link handy?

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

Bear - I haven't done a very good job of documenting my project. It's basically a 1996 Four Winns that I found really cheap because it had no engine, outdrive is shot, and boat is very dirty. I've been washing the darn thing for probably 2 months now and I'm finally done wet sanding, buffing, waxing.. and it's actually shining up ok.. so, I'm pleased. I have a donor boat and very soon I'll be taking the engine, transom assembly, and outdrive from the donor boat and putting it in the new boat. I've got the outdrive off and engine completely undone and I just have to hoist the engine out and then start at the transom assembly.. Really not that big deal of a project because nothing is really being constructed.

10-4 dude..

Still interests me... What drive are you putting in?

Still a few pics before wet-sand / buff, and after shots would be cool! No matter what level you're at in a project, I think lotsa iboats folk would be into it! I would!

Have a great weekend!

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

Gang,

Not much is up...

Wife's birthday weekend! I'm having a what was a "small get-together", now turned to a 1/2 barrel party! I'm 39 still dig this type of craziness, with friend and fam, but realize it now takes 3-5 days for normalcy of any kind.

My Guest charger had issues, so I exchanged it for this one.

jse_08MAR09_074.jpg

The a/c through hull plug adapter for the guest is specific for that charger, so I need to visit West Marine again... :D A few pics of placement, and 1-7/8" hole in stern.

jse_08MAR09_075.jpg

Also thought these clam shell deals would look cool covering the unfinished holes into the bilge...

jse_08MAR09_072.jpg

I...... If not a total pile oh s**t Sunday (due to aforementioned party), hope to calc all my wire requirements, so I can order from Greg's Marine Wiring ASAP. The dude always answers his phone, friendly etc...

Any idea how durable the durabak is? I'm considering doing the topside of my boat with it and want something as close to bulletproof as possible.

Re: 1999 Bayliner Project

Some progress,

I've been studying wiring systems, and lurking on the electronic forum, so I order the correct supplies, and at least have somewhat of a clue what I'm doing. I feel as though I'm pretty much radically changing the stock wiring set-up for the better...

So when fried from pondering.... I'm working on things like mounting pedestal seat...

I was told my carpet will be ready on Monday! I checked it out Friday after work, the binding was all finished, and half the snaps were installed... Looks incredible!!!!!! The binding, and snap tops (plastic coated!) are nearly a perfect match of grey!!! :D

PS... Were getting 5-7" of friggin snow this weekend...

Peace!
