GT thanks for the tip.. I always wonder how it was done by the pros...
I know I will have the hard edge to deal with, but with all the sanding I have done so far on this tank, whats a little more..:D

I did try to spray a little lighter as I got closer to the tape..

Finnished sanding out all the touch ups and they turned out good..
Don't have pics for today but they look all the same as before..

Hope to start buffing this week if the weather doesn't rain me out.. Said its going to rain Tuesday thru Thursday..

GT1M you need to put up a sign on your monitor to remind yourself that you have forgotten more than most people know
so we can all enjoy the wealth of your knowledge..:eyebrows::boink::D

Re: 1983 Deck Boat Transom/deck/stringer replacement Help

I have finally been able to use my new HF buffer (cheep one) and a 8" wool pad (not from HF) with some of the compound that
Friscoboater used.. The Auto Magic No 110 power cut..
It seems to work well on the gel coat.. I do have some old 3m compound that I might give a try tomorrow.. Have to see if it's to old..

Here is a couple of pics with the first buff and just left dry..

Here's what it looked like last July..

Man I am glad to see the differance.. Feels like I turned a milestone..
Hope everyone has a good Sunday..

OMG!!!
That is one serious mirror finish, brother...the fish are just going to hang there under the boat staring at themselves, mesmerized at how gorgeous their reflections look...you prolly won't even need a fishing rod, just a net to scoop them up in...
Definitely looks BEEE-U-TIFUL!
I don't care what you say, the bar is now set way high...

Re: 1983 Deck Boat Transom/deck/stringer replacement Help

Tried the 3m finish compound today and I think it did a better job.. The 3m has a little gritt to it, the Auto Magic did not..
The shine it produced was not that much better than the Auto Magic but is seamed to do a better job cutting..
I went back over the hull with a second buff using the Auto Magic BC 1 and a sponge buffing pad.. The side I did with 3m seamed to polish out faster and easier than the side with the Auto Magic compound.. You would think it would be the other way around..

The sponge pad I used was a medium pad..

Hope everyone had a great weekend and that the coming week goes by fast..
