Oh Mighty Boat Gods, Hear Me!!!
Thank you for giving our friend Jason a beautiful motor that looks great and runs like NEW:D:D:D for an IB, ahem.
Jason you just made my day!! Congrats!!! I just knew with what has happened to PG and others, Murphy was too busy to mess with you.
Carefully listen down south and you can hear another YEEEEHAWWWWW.

OK I'm late to the party here. Just bang the oil pan out with a 2x4. It's only 1008 steel, it'll move real easy. (ya I know I'm late). I've decided to give up watching DWTS, and follow your thread a little more closely so I can be timely with my suggestions.

I would take it to a weld shop and get it welded with mild steel. Good as new. Does JB weld hold up under oil, or will it eventually eat through it?

I have cubic inch envy dude. That motor sounds pretty good, I love the 4.3, it's a good motor. Making my 3.0 look kind of small.:(

Thanks Bob! Yah, the only racket that was going on there was my boys arguing over which dinosaurs were meat eaters in the background.

Yah buddy! My bride said to me "Jason, the only time I have seen you more excited was when your children were born!" I was totally amped man! I'll tell ya, it was heck of a thing trying to fall off to sleep last night.

Yah Don, I was able to bang er out using a heavy rubber mallet and a big set of clamps to shape it. I think it pretty well came back to just about original. I have farmer neighbors who have used JB to repair their tractor engine blocks and such with no trouble at all. TBD what I do from here on that pan. For now I am pumped to hear her burn fuel!

I am sorry to hear about your DWTS issue. Is there some ointment or therapy or something to help that?

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks a ton guys, really appreciate the support, encouragement, and help right along with the threats of beat downs and harassment! I'll take it all!:D

I probably had the Merc running for about 10 minutes before that video there. She was a little rough right out of the block, then you could see how she was running on my vid, very good. Right after that video I gave the throttle a few more bumps and she ran even better! I let her go for about another 20-25 minutes after that video and she seemed to be humming right along perfectly! Really super smooth!

Thanks again dudes!!! You rock!:D

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

By the way, I will say this...

Getting that Merc running was as big of a moment as bringing that Islander home back in January. Acquiring the hull and finding a good running motor have to be the biggest hurdles that I had to get over, and well, I got em! Sweet!

I still have a long way to go and a lot of labor yet to be completed, but I'll get there, eh! Have my eye on summer of 11!

Cheers:D

Yah right, especially since I found my left handed screw driver. But, now I seem to be missing my air cleaner spline grease! It's the special counter rotating kind too! As soon as I can get my hands on that I can open for biz.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

So yesterday I dragged the whole setup out in the drive just so I could be sure that I wasn't seeing things the night before. Well that, plus, I wanted to run er for a while longer before she got put up for the winter.

I'd be one happy kid!:D
