Just don't seem right. You wake the sleeping giant just to put it asleep.:(
At least you will have a productive winter knowing you have a great power plant to put in.:D:D:D:D:D

You know that water isnt required if you only want to run for a few minutes. Winter fires for motivation is not out of the question.

Yah buddy, I actually don't feel all that bad about putting the Merc up. I am just so jazzed that she is arunin! By getting her going that gives me a green light to move forward on shoring up the transom and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Yah, I may need to turn it over once she is bolted down just to make sure she is comfortable, eh:D

So for today got just a bit done...

Cleaned the garage, again.

Got a few more things done on the trailer including mounting up the keel rollers, cool.

Not sure if I can find the time tomorrow but if I can: wash out the hull and run a leak test. Then that tub will be ready for Gluvit.

It's gonna be too cold to let that gluvit set well before too long, so it's a good time to get that taken care of. Once you get that done you will really start seeing the new boat progressing.

Keep up the good work. BTW do you work on Merc outboards too?:p

Yah, I know I am pushing my temp limits already with the Gluvit. I am going to need to be creative through the winter working with the epoxy and such as things progress. I think I'll need to have a little space down in the basement for at least a makeshift shop.

Agreed! Once the Gluvit is down it should be a whole new view on the project. I can install that Merc (big job), then flotation, deck and on...

Tell ya what Mike, find any random 12 year old kid and give him a wrench to work on your OB. You'd be way better off than having the likes of me mucking up your power plant!:D

I can't believe it. Your first customer and you send him away.
Remember when you do install gluvit you will have to paint/cover it up. If the boat is left outside you would not want the sun to mess up your work. All this means is you will want it warm enough to paint or have your foam/floor ready.
Getting exciting, isn't it?

Yah, I think what I'll do is pull it out in the side yard where it's a little warmer (vs. the garage) and Gluvit. I'll just throw the boat cover on to protect it from the falling leaves and rain/sun til it cures.:D

Yeah get the Gluvit done ASAP. You don't have to paint what's under the deck.

Nice seats, they look comfy. A lot like my white helm seat, only those look more expensive:)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Hey, had a pretty good day today!

First up, I assembled the new and improved winch stand...

Later on in the day I gave the hull a solid washout and completed a leak test. Here it is starting to fill with water...
IMAG0099.jpg

Pretty uneventful overall which is a good thing there! I did find one loose ribbit and very slight seepage along one of the seams at the bow. Both should be pretty easy repairs. I'm going to fight the temptation to clean off all the stains and such on the hull. It's clean enough. I'm sure that NB would be disappointed though.

In between I raked a ton of leaves and had a big burn...

Up next, Gluvit:)

Well thats one way to make sure you don't lay in the hammock! Talk about smoked meat. Don't worry about all the stains Jas, they will be covered up anyway. Nice job.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I am seeing that this would be post number 2000 for me so couple of quick thoughts...

I still have a long way to go on this project but here is no way I could have gotten even this far without the help from you guys and all the awesome info gathered right here on iboats! Thanks a ton fellas!

Something else...

We are on our way to U of M Med again today for Ethan my youngest, 2.5 year old. It's pretty scary what is going with him but I really think they can help.

See, this Islander and Merc have been really good for me, as I can fix them. I can't fix my son, though I so desperately wish I could. This project has been a great outlet for that sort of frustration, you know.

We are working with a super sharp group of Docs and we remain very optimistic/hopeful.

Maybe, just maybe, Ethan will be reeling in a monster Perch (probably 4") on his Kermit the Frog fishing pole next summer. He'll love it! And, so will I.

Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Jason. Keep the faith and tell Ethan to get well quick. You need help on the boat and obviously you don't know what your doing.
Personally, it is I that should be thanking you for the support you give every morning at 4 am.
And I thought I was the early bird.
Keep us informed and God Bless.

God bless your little man Ethan and all of your family Jason.
You have 345 days to post pics of his smiling face out there on the water!:D
All the best...
