THE toughest job hands down is raising kids. We just got back from the nuerologist for my one and only. Looking for answers and all we get is more questions. Doctors can be so pragmatic sometimes.

I don't know where I'd be without my faith in the Lord JC. It's all that gets me through the day sometimes.

One thing for ceartain is working on the boat is therapuetic for me and my boy. Fishing helps too. We've gone every Saturday for the last 6 weeks. He loves it and so do I.

Good luck and god bless.

Hey, living in Ann Arbor I have a few dr. friends that work at the hospital. Personally, I wouldn't want to go there for anything simple (broken bone, etc.) but for serious and difficult to diagnose ailments, your son is in very good hands. It was tough enough when my wife spent a week in the hospital last year - I can't imagine if it were one of my kids. Don't be afraid to lean on your family and friends for help and support.

Thanks guys, you are awesome! We are off to the OR in just a couple of hours - though today is a biopsy (head/brain/scary) so we won't have answers for another several days or so.

Here is a quick shot of my guy helping me out on the Islander, I love hanging with him working on the rig!

Thats a great picture of a handsome young man, must take after mommy. Ethan seems to be saying " Ice cream BREAK"
Understandably, us boat nuts are on the bottom of the totem pole, but keep us informed please. Most of us are dads too and we care for you, Ethan & family. Good Luck & God Bless

Good luck with everything. My son just turned 3. I can't imagine the nightmare of dealing with serious health issues with a little one. Medicine is amazine these days, brain medicine even more so. I have faith that Ethan is in more than capable hands.

Thanks a ton guys much appreciated! Ethan was a champ today, just a super guy!

We won't know for sure what is happening for at least a few days but our main Doc may have given us just a hint of favorable news (compared to the all bad over the past month). I'll take what I can get.

Take it all a step at a time. I really understand how frustrating health issues can be but the young children bounce back fast.

A prayer and lot's of love will keep things together.

Jason -

My boy is now 11 years old and he still amazes me regularly, but so far my all-time favorite period in his life was when he was the same age as Ethan is now. There's no better example of innocence and joy.

He's in our prayers too bud.

Thanks a ton guys, much appreciated.

It's hard for me to even deal with this stuff really. I am usually a pretty upbeat guy and feel like I can fix lots of stuff. This whole deal is simply out of my league, big time. I have already said too much. I love my son, I have Christ to lean on and an awesome family who is a huge support for all that we need. Our hopes are high!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

OK fellas, I did manage to accomplish a couple of things in the last few days...

First up I drained all the motor busting water out of the Merc and hauled the outdrive down to the basement for the long Michigan winter.

I also got one more final clean in on the hull of the Islander and decided to paint up the bilge just to make it look a little more finished...

Then I rigged up a system to pull back the stern deck to get that transom back in - really similar to PR's rigging. Two keeper straps hooked on the end of the aluminum skin with a scrap piece of plywood underneath. I didn't bother screwing it down or anything, just hooked right over...

I then grabbed the transom, and dropped it in. Fit perfect! Sorry I didn't get a shot of the process. I pretty much just picked it up and dropped it in and, well, I needed both hands. Check it out...

The whole process really took only a few minutes. Gosh, it's great when things go as planned! I decided not to paint the transom, just leave it bare epoxy. I think I'll appreciate seeing a little lumber back there when I am working on the Merc.

It was a nice warm day today so down went the Gluvit too! Great! Really glad I got that done!

It's it great when a plan works out.

Kind of eerie...I just did the exact same thing tonight, scrap board and straps holding the gunwall tops up and all, just lik PR....check out my thread, only one pic though.....

Hey, did you drill any holes in the transom before you put the epoxy on?
