Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Yah baby, I sure do love my pizza! BIGFOOT pizza? All the better!!!

Though, I am reminded by my southern buddy I have issues...

Jas is clumsy and slow (trust me on this one)....

That PMC, what a punk!

He's right though, I haven't had my heart rate up in months. So, after I make this post I'll need to dig up the running shoes and get back at it. My "Holiday Weight" is showing:fat:

Well, little progress note.

I kinda started in on the console rehab. The captains helm has a ton of holes all over the place...

I really don't want to be forced to work with those so I'm pretty sure I'll "skin" the whole thing with alum. That way I can put all my guages/switches/controls wherever I want.

For the port console....

That will get a new latch/lock for the glove box and a new grab handle.

Plus, I'm pretty sure the 261 must have been owned by the mans wife, cuz....

Yah, sure aint me so that will need to come off!

I also installed the very bow most backer for the cockpit combing pad (rivets and PL). That got tied in with the two side backers for strength. Even though you won't see it I'll still touch up the PL with Deck Over so it looks uniform. I dropped in those carpeted rod locker bottoms, looks a lot more finished in there. And, got the hatches painted up and installed again. I threw in the consoles for a quick mock up here...

For my short list:

Inside gunwale trim really needs to happen next.

OK, fattymcfathead, where are those running shoes:facepalm:

Man, I leave this site for a little while and find you've bought like 37 boats and cut up the islander to make it an open bow!! :), wow I've missed a lot! Boat looks incredible, you do great work man. Want to stop by and restore my little 12'er?

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Ok guys, mail lady brought me a box today, REALLY EXCITED!!!!

OK, so, way back, almost when I first brought this Islander home, I scored a super awesome set of gauges. A set of Starcraft NOS made by Teleflex. They were sweet! I changed up my plans for the console and decided to go with white faced gauges. I ended up passing them on to one of the other Starcraft brothers.

Well, I've regretted it ever since.

I have looked a ton but never could find another set. Teleflex stopped making them for Starcraft years ago.

Well, I found em!!!! And now they are here!

Nice gauge set, I hope the trading balance didn't go too negative after letting the 1st set go to another SC builder.

They were cheap! I'm headed over to the "Starcraft Parts" thread, there are actually a couple more left!!

Those gauges were only intended for "pure" starcraft's with their tops still intact. Best you just mail those off to Wisconsin where this new guy is just getting his resto started:)

I'm a big fan of the black faces too. Nice score on those, you still looking for the temp, volt, etc?

OI - Ah ya, ain't happenen buddy, nice try though:tsk:

Those gauges are really sweet jas. I wanted to ask you a question, but I don't want to highjack your thread here. When you did the V6 swap into your boat how did you come about your front mount height? I want to do the same swap as soon as I can find a glasser donor boat on craigs list. You can answer on my thread if you want. Again, sorry about the Highjack.

Man, this Islander thread is like hijack city, no sweat, seriously....

My engine install is actually kinda hard to find in this thread. Mainly because it's sort of spread over 2 or 3 very different time periods.

But, to find the front mounts, the real quick/basic jist would be:

Install transom shield
Hang the engine off the rear mounts
Run the alignment bar till perfect
Measure for the front mounts
Pull the engine
Build and install the front mounts
Install the engine again
Run the alignment bar till perfect again
Lock everything down

That make any kinda sense?

Yes, it does. That's pretty much what I had floatin' round in my head. Just wanted to confirm with a starcraft master. Has anyone ever tried a islander V8 on these forums?

Man that console has a lot of holes to fill, better keep shopping for those really cool Starcraft gauges. :thumb:

For the V8 the process would be exactly the same actually. The front mounts would just be a few inches further forward.

There was one fella who stopped by this thread and actually posted a video of his Islander with a monster 454 Mag in it, whough baby! Wish I could find it right quick.

Yah dood, I think I'm just going to skin that console with new alum so I can put in whatever I want where I want ya know:thumb:
