I certainly don't ever remember "extreme temp days" when I was a young kid. Seems we had school no matter what the conditions. Enjoy your day off and we are waiting on progress report pics!

I don't think they were called "extreme temperature days" back then,.....

I remember no school because the diesel in the buses would gel and they wouldn't run,...

And at least once a kids would unplug the buses so they wouldn't start causing no school,.....I lived 8 miles from the bus barn, It wasnt't me,..........................

You could ship the cushions to me, I'd be happy to sew 'em all up for you? I tend to work late into the evening as opposed to the wee-hours of the morning!

Nice in the "Extreme Temperature Day" I thought Michigonians were a hearty breed? Learn something every day!?

Hey Jas! Hope all is well and happy 2014! I have been quietly following your build, and once again I am amazed at what you have been able to do. I am looking forward to seeing her float soon :D!

Those five pieces will serve as the backrests all the way around up in the bow, like em! As I was putting them together I kept thinking...

"My bow passengers will probably appreciate these on a nice sunny summer day, cruzing along on the lake:joyous:

I was originally going to take em in to my upholstery guy and have them boxed with piping. Well since I chopped the top and now that have some extra upholstery that is going into this project I had just barely enough to do the job. Barely! I was really afraid they would call me and say "We ran out, bring more." ...and I'd have to get a whole additional order, lots of $$$, yadayada.

So, I just wrapped em myself instead. That's also just about the last of the good foam I swiped out of Thumper the Baja:thumb:

All in all, it's a good job, I think I'll give myself an "amateur upholstery guy" grade of a "B-".

Those look good enough for the girls I go out with! I always say any one who complains about the "quality" of my work can swim back to the marina!

Oh yah, I thought I'd show you guys a little backwoods, Red Green style engineering. So, the two forward most pads will need to conform to the curved shape of the bow ya know. I got to thinking that I need a great big vice. Well, I grabbed the cushions, wedged em in between my big shelving units (on casters) that hold all my outdoor gear, and, hooked up a pair of cam straps. Then, cranked em tight...

With the temps as cold as they are it'll be a while before I can install those, so, over the next week/two I'll just let em sit in there and crank just a smidge tighter as time goes by.

Have a great Sunday guys:joyous:

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Probably a dumb question...but on the upholstered pieces, how do you fasten them in place?? With those spikey furniture nuts and screws from behind the metal gunwale? On my Grumman, I carpeted the boards and used ss screws with finish washers, visible. I couldn't figure out how to align screws from up in the gunwale into furniture nuts in the upholstered pieces. So, it worked fine, but doesn't look nearly as nice as yours, which looks like a new boat.

Thanks! Puzzled...

Well my nutty iboats buddy, in a word, velcro.

I originally was running stainless bolts, you can find that idea a little ways back in this thread.

But now, I've decided to just make things super easy and go with velcro:thumb:

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

If you used epoxy or spar on the plywood backer behind the bow cushion's vinyl, won't they spring back & fight holding tight to the gunwale w/ velcro?

Same here, the kids missed all week, and next week weather will be worse :watermelon:

People are running out of personal days to take w/ the kids off school for a week right after the holidays....
