Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

there is no way its really THAT easy?

Youbettcha, must have tool for metal boat builders:thumb:

The only benefit to the arrow tool is the swivel head that can get you into some tight spaces...

No doubt, I still need to use the Arrow riveter sometimes in those tight spots.

So if someone needs a hand riveter, get a Stanley.

So Jas? Is the top painted yet?

Thats good info on that Stanley version. I have been really disappointed with the arrow one.

Paint? Yah, not yet done. Taped tarped and ready to go, just waiting on two things:

#1 The temps and humidity to come down some.

#2 I'm hoping for about a free 3 hour time block to clean, etch, prime and paint all in one single stretch.

I'll get there;)

Does three hours include drying time between coats? You're gonna be a busy bee, Jason. :joyous:

Yah bro, the ol Jas methodology of painting only really needs a few minutes between coats (chemical adhesion vs. mechanical adhesion):thumb:

I think I'll talk through my shadetree paint steps when I get to the hull color.

Ugh, I am wiped out, it's way past my bed time.

But, this Islander has a white top now.

Goodnight.

OK, appropriate levels of warm black water are now in the body:thumb:

So yesterday afternoon the temps and humidity dropped way down and I kinda started working some: cleaning the garage, tarping off the misc stuff around the boat... not really intending to paint necessarily.

But, 7 hours later (uh not 3), the Islander topside ended up white!

It's really not that special to look at right now. I sorta feel like it's a blank canvas that's ready for the real painting. Once I paint up those window frames black and starting adding on all the fittings/gear I think it'll look real nice.

She should also look a lot better once I add in the rigging to cover up those shoddy gunwales.

I have a few runs/drips so overall I'm going to give myself a B- on this paint work.

Oh and those cabin bulkheads, not using em. Have a different plan so those are out.

Hey, it's Friday guys! Cheers!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks fellas! Yah, I am really glad to have that topside done. This topside was a real pain with all the holes to deal with and necessary prep work. Anyway, with that behind me I can now start working on a whole variety of other tasks and that is a good thing!

OK, so those bulkheads, they just don't do it for me really. I guess they just don't look right in there and I'm not all that fond of em. But, I do have a plan!

Like I mentioned earlieer, I am really glad the production manager and the customer one in the same on this project. Otherwise we'd be having words:mad:

HA!:joyous:

Don't you just love how optomistic we are when estimating how long something is gonna take to get done. Maybe thats a good thing though. Boat looks real nice. Hopefully you can be on cruise control at work today.

Thanks man! Yah, this will be a well used boat so I am completely content with the few paint flaws I have in there, not sweating it a bit:thumb:

Oh man, so stinkin busy! Ain't happenen! Rats.

Wow, how I would love a big omelet and a fat nap right about now:joyous:
