Nice looking pumps there Jas. What size fittings do those take? Got to get a couple for the Chief.

I have seen those 30 dollar jobs, they make me nervous. Bottom feeder is how I roll, but not with a bilge pump, knowhattamean.

HaHa...that made me laugh...there's two things Jas' won't skimp on, bilge pumps and outdrives!!! He wants to get back....and not sink in the process...

Hey Willy, that will take a 1" ID hose eh.

Yah Dave, I don't mind spending $ on some stuff if I have to: gauges, fittings, stuff I can't scrounge or build I suppose. But, I still try super hard to find the good deals! :thumb:

Super idea on twin bilge pumps Jas; The redundant aspect is clever thinking. Agree with DJ its off to flebay.

I know you fellas give me heck about my batt placement issues but in all honesty, I have swapped my paint scheme ideas probably double my batt ideas:facepalm:

I suppose I am thankful the customer here is also the production manager, cuz otherwise, this would be one troubled project relationship!

-------------------------------------------

K fellas, I have been working on paint prep here for what it seems like forever! Topside has been cleaned probably a half dozen times, and all alum trim has been taped off. I just have a little more taping work then tarp the copit and side hull. Then topside paint! Hoping to run that in the next couple of days.

So yah, I have been meaning to shoot up a quick video of my Harbor Freight air riveter for a long time now. I finally made that happen today...

So yah, in sort, even a doofis like me can run one, and, if you are rebuilding an old alum boat, you should have one:thumb:

Great video Jason, Anyone that buys a tin boat to fix up, that should be the first new tool that goes in the tool box. I absolutely love mine.

Oh yeah that's what I'm talking about, I have 108 rivets to just put my cabin back on the Chief. No freaking way it's going to be with a hand gun.

One thing I don't get is how hardened steel jaws get ruined by aluminum so fast. They say in the product video you'll have to replace the jaws from time to time. I assume you got the 3/16ths model. I will be interested in seeing how well it holds up for you.

That pneumatic riveter riveter certainly would be nice to have on these projects. Even better would be an orbital wet sander but unfortunately my compressor is not big enough to run one. The hand cramps are slowing that process down.

All I can hope for is some poor sap will see that video and grab one before punching a few thousand rivets first.

I kept thinking that I didn't want to cough up the cash for one as I "just have a few more rivets to punch and then I'll be done". I was way off!

That one actually came with interchangeable heads.

Yah man, I was thinking the same exact thing when I was sanding my hull!!! HA!

I hear ya on the paint bud - I had the same problem. I finally decided on one and shot paint before I had a chance to change my mind.

Look on the bright side tho...

If you change your mind after it's painted you can always sand it back off! :D

I think this video has had some serious CGI done to it, there is no way its really THAT easy? I have a bulging right forearm that says this is just Hollywood magic. :embarassed:

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Yeah, I was dying to get one of those tools. Just couldn't afford the $300.00 air compressor to run it off of.

Those arrow tools have a pretty short usable life... I had to take mine apart and rebuild it about 10 times.

I also used the double-handed rivet tool that you can get at Harbor Freight - about 20 bucks. It worked better than the arrow tool (i only had to rebuild it about 5 times). The only benefit to the arrow tool is the swivel head that can get you into some tight spaces...

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I just got caught up here and watched the video, nice! I also got the HF air riveter, but I had already hand squeezed over a thousand with the same Stanley hand riveter. Used it again the other night and still working great. So if someone needs a hand riveter, get a Stanley.

I know a lot of the HF air powered ones work right out of the box, but mine didn't. It took a lot of tinkering, but it works good now.

So Jas? Is the top painted yet?
