Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Progress coming along nicely Jas. Will you have her done by the time we head north for the salmon pilgrimage next year?

I know this thread has grown to a bloated 5k post count, but here is my guarantee: This Islander will be done before we get to 50K!

Jan 2010 Started this thread until now Sep 2013 = 31 months
5041 post count divided by 31 months = 162 per month

So the guaranty is before 50K posts = approx 277 months from now.........which should put the completion date somewhere in the neighborhood of the year 2036. :D Yep, moving right along!!

Ok, so Bob's math has me 23 years out. Noooooo problemo! Shoot, I could easily have this thing wrapped up in less than 20 years!

Bah, true timeline:

I hope to float before I start up the hockey rink project out back. I've got some new skates to try out!

Game on!:thumb:

The hockey rink project is just waiting for the pool to freeze over, isn't it?

Yah, I'm seeing we are back down below 80 next week, that should help!

Hey, Dave, check this out.......

1-3/16''x 1/2'' Flexible Vinyl Insert: V12-4144 - iboats

Did we ever look at this as a rubrail alternative before? That sure seems like it would work eh? Less than half the cost of the Starcraft stuff!

Yeah, I think I looked at that one. I wonder though if it would want to pop out easily though, there's no connection keeping it in the track, just the tension of the original shape (if that makes sense).

Hey buddy, where did you buy the
3M 4000 UV? I think I need some for a gap at the top of my transom.

That pool will never freeze - the kiddos are never going to get out. They are loving it way too much!

Yah, yours is way beefy by comparison with that extra backbone piece. I think I'll ask for a sample to check it out.

She'll be on the water someday my friend, someday she'll get there. I just need to keep plugging away here eh:joyous:
Yah, temps and humidity are perfect this week, now I just need to carve out the time to make it happen. So stinking busy this week!

I picked that up over at West Marine in Bay City. I paid like a kidney for it. But it was buy one get one sale that day so it was worth it I spose.

Not sure what part of the job you are referring to but I did two things to protect the top of my transom.

First I laminated that alum angle to the top of the transom so water would be totally sealed out...

Then I ran a thin bead at the top of the stern deck in between the alum skin and rubrail channel...

Those two things should keep the water away from the transom for the next hundred years!:thumb:

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Well, it seems I have squandered all my early morning Islander work sessions on getting to school way too early and helping our future generation instead. All right, I suppose that may have been a good use of my time.

Hey, I did score these this week though...
P1110099.jpg

Grabbed em off eBay for like 65 bux each. That was a pretty good deal for automatic 1100 GPH pumps. I have run this model in both the Jet Star and the Sea Nymph and I like them a lot. I have accidently launched both those boats sans plug and thought "huh, why is there water shooting out the side of my boat? AAAKKK! THE PLUG!" So yah, they keep up nicely with gushing water.

I decided to go with dual pumps for volume and redundancy in this Islander. Good safety feature for the big water eh!

If you guys are in need of a bilge pump I know the guy has a bunch left at that price.

Hey guys, have an excellent weekend:joyous:

That reminds me I need to start gathering up parts for the future rebuild. I could make use of a pump or 2 myself.

Wow Jas! heck of a deal right there!

Developed faith in my bilge pump capacity in a similar, cold-sweat fashion

How is the noise level on these? I have seen a bunch for around $30 but they are 800 gph (and probably sounds like a buzz saw).

Thanks fellas, yah, I like those a lot. They seem to be built well and pump great. There is also a button right on the front for testing if there is any question. Pretty good quality stuff!

Yah, just loud enough to hear running I'd say. Which is good because I like to know it's running! But, it's still pretty quiet too.

I have seen those 30 dollar jobs, they make me nervous. Bottom feeder is how I roll, but not with a bilge pump, knowhattamean.
