Just curious to see if this thread will blow up at 5,000 posts... :)

Or 5001 :watermelon:

I'm thinking after I hit 'Post Quick Reply' the internet will go down. I guess I'll have to go outside.........

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

OK, well, I did grab some progress early this morning anyway. Sweating like a pig, already pretty hot at 4am, ran the final rough sanding (120, 220). I hope to work the whole topside with a red metal sanding pad tomorrow morning, so long as I wake up early enough.

---------------------------------------

Hey Dave, I've been thinking about that new rubrail you have on your SS. Man do I really like the look of that vs. the vintage rubrail. If you have a chance to post up a photo of that again eh?

So ya, I wanted to measure the Islander again to see just exactly how much I need (if I can justify coughing up the dough for it).

The tape measure somehow got wedged in the channel, I went to flick it out and....

I'll need to include the cost of a new tape measure too:facepalm::rolleyes:

As requested....

Here is the part number from my invoice but remember they screwed up and sold it to me for cost? I think the normal price is around $3.50/ft which is what I had to pay when I got some for Lakelover...

Thanks man! Yah, see, that is just such a clean, more modern look there ^^^^. I really like it so much more than the vintage stuff. I have enough vintage rubrail, in fine serviceable condition so the $3.50ish a foot is really difficult to justify. That would put me at almost 200 bux. Rats, this will be a tough choice.

------------------------------------------

Quick progress report: red sanding pad over the entire topside this morning. No photos, it was pretty boring stuff. Getting just a little closer to paint!

Maybe a trip to your dealer with a pic of that invoice to show him the part # (and he'll see the price) will get ya a discount...

After all, you do have Vulcan mind powers for dickering...remember?

Oh gosh, tell ya what, my local Starcraft dealer likes to add an ultra special "we are a cool dealership surcharge". This is on top of the already ridiculous "marine tax" they charge.

I'll get nowhere with those guys:blue:

How does DJP's supplier get off charging him tax on the freight though? I see a line item up top that was taxed, and $0 on the actual freight line below. Sneaky.

There was no tax on freight. $66.00 x 6% Mi. sales tax = $3.96 + $66 + $10 freight = $79.96

If he was that sneaky he wouldn't have only charged me his cost.....

Not sure if this applies to you, but my style of rubrail was okay with me, it was just a little worn out and tired. So, I sanded them down to a nice smooth finish, the primed them with rusto primer that was made for plastic/rubber... then, I spray bombed them with Rusto flat black... Of course, don't know if that will stand the test of time, but they pretty much look brand new right now.

Don't have any close-ups, but this is about the best I have:

Yah buddy, my vintage rubrail is actually in decent shape which makes the justification for new stuff even more difficult. I think if I hit it with some ArmorAll it would look really great.

It's really just the shape of the new vs. the old that I like.

Bah, I need put that 200 bux towards my new SEI drive. I can't throw that kinda cash at something I don't have to have. So that's that.

---------------------------------------

Goal for tomorrow morning: Final sanding on my alum trim and SharkHide.

Did I miss something? Why do you need a new out drive already? Like GA said, it hasn't even been in the water yet.....
