Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

There is. At the top right of every page under the page count in a thread is a "rate this thread". Not only can you "like", you can also say how much from terrible to excellent.

Like I like Jasons new rails. Looks like they mirror the rake of the cabin roof back to the stern. :thumb:

All the great stuff on Jason's thread and you commented on my post about a "like" button? LOL now that is funny  I actually knew about the rating option @ upper right and have used it a time or two, I think it is more for rating the entire thread than just one post (it also just seems to get lost in the shuffle) Really though, me saying "there needs to be a like button" is more of a way to say "I really like what you did or said" more than it being an actual request for a like button. Sorry for the confusion.

Hey Jason, I really do "like" what all you have done and look forward to more updates. Keep up the great work! :thumb:

The bow rails look great. They look nearly like what came on my 2011.

And just to inspire you to finish this fine boat and go fishing...here is a pic of a nice Northern Pike I caught a few days ago on my Islander:)

I've made a few "I like" comments in the thread, even a few "I don't like" when Jason asks for an opinion.. To me that means more than a like button. Guess I was confused.

It's okay Buddy, it happens :joyous: We are all here for the same reason..... TO ENJOY GREAT BOATS AND FINE WORKMANSHIP AND HELP ONE ANOTHER. If there was a "LIKE" button, I would use it AND leave a comment, Double the complement. Anyway, enough about this, this is Jason's thread.

I want to see some paint on that old Islander. Any ideas on what you are going to do? Back original? maybe new style like the one above. Whatever you pick, I'm sure it will look great.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

OK fellas, it's time to get rolling again on the Islander. The Sea Nymph is all covered up to help me fight temptation. Besides that, school is going to eat me alive (beginning of the year is mass chaos) and coaching soccer grabs about whatever time I have left in the evenings/Saturdays. What time is left? Early morning work sessions. So hopefully I can get back on track and back in the groove to get this boat water ready!

Thanks a bunch for the comments and bumping me along guys, appreciated!

Hey Rico, your boat rocks man, that thing is saaawwwweeeeeet!

Casy, yah, I have actually "decided" about the color of this boat a dozen times now. Last posted here on iboats was navy blue over white. I actually changed my mind (again) about 2 months ago. All said and done, it should look similar to that boat right up there ^^^^^:becky:

-------------------------------------------------------------

Anyhow, after a mojor garage overhaul, I burned through a whole contractors pack of sand paper fairing out that JB Weld job I did a while back.

Before...

(couple more holes to deal with there)

After...
P1110072.jpg

And the port side...
P1110075.jpg

That turned out really nice, pretty happy with it! Very smooth to the touch.

Now no doubt that it would not be "perfectly" smooth like those (cough) glass boats. But the goal here was to simply fare out the seam and rivets. I was just hoping that it wouldn't grab your eye when looking at it. I think all painted up it should be all good.

So from here, more prep work on the topside and headed towards paint.

Short list:

Finish sanding out the topside
Little cabin window rehab work
One last swipe on all the topside alum trim, then SharkHide
Through cleaning for paint

Just a little progress here but the blades are turning again:thumb:

Jen texted me this photo while I was working the other day...

Ethan had pulled out his Legos and said...

"I'm rebuilding this old boat Mom, it's a Starcraft!"

That kid rocks:joyous:

Looking forward to consistent updates. One benefit of your early morning work sessions will be cooler temps. Did you see the forecast for the week?

Yah, it's looking a little warm this week. Man, we have had an awesome summer though. I can't remember one so nice, seems like we had just that one scorcher week and the rest has been super nice.

Hey Dave, I got a photo just for you - I'll post it up tomorrow if I can remember;)

Ethan has a plan, unlike his da... nevermind. The apple didn't fall far from the tree. A few years from now Ethanoutside is gonna post here "When I was a kid, my dad had a Starcraft. I just found one just like his" :D

Yes, it was a great summer for us as well. I'll keep an eye out for the pic...should I be scared?

Figures this week would be hot...last week i actually got caught up at work (first time in years) and asked to lower my hours from the normal 54 down to 45 for a while just so I could work on the boat more before winter. My boss said that was fine, and to make hay while the sun shines! So I'm hoping for progress also...

I've lived in Okie Land for most of my life and this is the first time in my life that I can remember the month of August when we've never had a day when the temp NEVER hit 100?. AMAZING!!!! Very mild.

Good to see you back in the saddle again Jas!

If splashwells were easier to construct using legos, I'm sure Ethan's boat would've been an OB :) Very cool!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

do you need any parts for your boat..... like the windows or trim for the windows....most of the chrome stuff mounted on the decks was corroded pretty good, the plating is flaking...but some stuff is SS. I will not be putting the cap back on my islander.. I saved everything except wood so far....bob
