Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Ok, I changed my pants and wiped away the tears, I'm ok now:joyous:

A long time ago I grabbed up this box of controls for nearly nuttin. They came off of a gigantic rotted out fly bridge glasser that found it's proper place in the world. I sold one set and kept the other...

I really wanted the dual set up. They'll need some work but I think they are kinda cool.

So I dug those out and got after the shift/throttle rigging. Here's the shift side all set...

...and the throttle side...

"Ayuh Any Grease" schmeered on where appropriate.

These cables are huge but with a big loop at the transom (off to the port side) all is good...

I can move the cables by hand, nice and smooth action, cool!!

Next up, sledding with the kiddos!

I dunno about you DJ but at Jas' place, on snow days, we go bonkers as soon as the call comes! We run, jump, hollar, yallar, tackle, tickle, whoop, bite, flop, roll, romp and Jack the black lab barks a whole lot too! Then we have a nice big breakfast and go play outside:joyous:

We actually only got like 2", I'll take it!:thumb::thumb:

How/Where you mounting that style shifter/throttle? I like that style and am hoping to use one like it.. but figuring out where to mount it has been my hurdle.

I stewed on this for along time. The best I got is installed on top of the console. I hope it works:cupcake:

When I was a kid we didn't get calls about snow days. The bus just didn't show up.

I like the controls too. The left set must have been up on the fly bridge. Will the knobs shine up? Gotta use an 8-ball for one of them.

Huh? That's wierd GA. I didn't think they even had busses n' schools way back then? I was totally guessing that you helped invent the dirt, eh??:becky:

Yah, those knobs look ok in the photo there (on the right) but they are pretty rough. I may just buy new maybe, they aren't too spendy.

Of course we had busses. Only red flashers, none of that new-fangled yellow lights and stop signs stickin' out the side and cattle guards on the front bumper. and strobes. Live was much simpler. Lets just say my tinny was born well after I became a high school grajit. The bad part is I had to walk 2,5 miles to catch the bus. Country livin; at its finest. Except for the walking to the bus, I loved being a country boy way back when.

The one set of control knobs just look real chalky. The red one is almost white.

Just as a second opinion, I wouldn't do the billiard balls for the controls. I've had a boat with them before and the large, over-sized and heavy knob makes small adjustments tough. I bought a proper sized knob for just a few bucks and it's amazing the affect on the control.

Just food for thought.

So with a whole day off you prolly have it ready to splash tomorrow right? Perfect Michigan January day up around 60 degrees......

Oh, you'll be at school, sorry. That would have been cool though, cause by Friday it's going to be all iced up again.

4th snow day in the last 5 days here. Really One snow day, 2 too cold at the bus stop (below 0 wind chills) and today was an icy road and fog day. The kids are getting really lucky and lazy.

Nice controls Jas, creative cable runs. Works for me.

Actually guys, funny thing about snow days (check post #1) and this Islander. See, I actually named her on the return trip from the junk yard that day. And that's all I'm going to say about that...
