Didn't you have an idea to put a jump seat in front of the dog house and stick the batts under the seat at one time? Now if you hang an O/B bracket off the back, voila, battery space. Never mind that one Jas. :embarassed:

Heck,.........

I think you would have room to go 4 wide and 2 deep for a total of 8 rods in the front part of the dog house,....

Teamster - That modog fella has some nice setups! I'm thinking that I may prefer to have rod holders up on the gunwales way up midships keeping the rods out of the way. Maybe even rocket launchers??? I still haven't totally figured the doghouse but I may end up with a cushion up there? We'll see...

GA - OB on a bracket? That's a great idea!!!:becky:

My 1970 Islander OEM mounting was/is port and starboard battery boxes attached to transom as high as the batteries can be conveniently installed or removed from the boxes and each box was equidistant between engine and hull side (about halfway up the transom). No problems with that locaton I can think of in my past experience. What were the dimensions of your stock seat boxes forward? You're not a Senator or sumpthin' are you? :rolleyes: Thanks!

That setup is just a quick place to put rods when moving between spots,......Tourney time is when seconds add up,...........

I thought you might come around Jas. I found that by increasing the engine bay length only about 4 - 6" (mine's a short 4 banger) there was sufficient room for two 27 batteries. It also provided sufficient space at engine mount level that I was able to simply slide the engine forward enough to replace the transom without having to hoist the engine out of the boat.

I placed a 2 x 4 between the stringers with the top level with original plywood front engine mount platform. This provided a base upon which to place the battery cradle, also basically 2 x 4 construction for strength. The battery boxes fit snuggly inside the pockets. By offsetting the batteries slightly, I was able to use the space on the starboard side to run the cables and wiring harness. Rear view CAD pictured.

This also provided a sensible location for the battery switch, a fuse panel and the bilge pump control. I then made a solid oak cross piece to fit on top of the battery boxes and tied it down with a knob on a stainless steel all thread rod that passes down through the added 2 x 4 cross brace between the stringers into a recessed captive ss nut in the bottom.

By dropping the battery boxes below floor level, there was enough room for adequate ventilation below my seats. - Grandad

Now who in the heck started all this batt talk AGAIN!!! We even have SBB jumping in talking fiberglass smak!!!

:ban::ban:

(Oh wait, I may have brought up the batt thing, sorry)

So ya, had just a few minutes before church - real quick I installed the deck plate. This here will allow access to the fittings and sender for my midships tank.

For the 5200 lovers in the house...

Even after you said you'd fab'd the cross brace for the tie down knob, I still couldn't easily tell it wasn't part of the battery boxes.
The picture says it, but let's not hijack Jas's thread. I'm liable to get smacked. - Grandad

I'm glad you took that the way I meant, Jas.

Have you thought about merging the SN thread with this one? It would be much easier for you to update. Gotta go! :bolt:
