Can o worms is right Glen!

Nah, basically, now that I have got into the rigging, and have since decided not to have storage hatches at the transom there, the seat box storage has become a little more valuable to me.

Here's the other thing - in thinking about the design of my dog house, I'll need to have a few inches of clearance at the front of the engine. Well, add just a few more inches on top of that I can now house the batts under/in the dog house too and I'm not really eating up too much deck space.

Plus, that puts the batts at the center line, and sorta towards mid boat (vs. the very stern) so that's not so bad either.

In short, batts in front of the engine, under the dog house:eagerness:

(Well, until I change my mind:noidea:)

Hmmmm, battery placement...uh, let's see...I'm not sure we've completely covered all the possible angles on this, so I think it is a good thing to go back over it just in case we missed something...should only take, oh, I'd say 7-10 pages...
Happy Saturday...:joyous:

Hmmmmm, batteries installed close to where they will be used for shorter cables, less $$$, and very similar to the OEM's... who'da thunk it???

Jas, you might consider an insulated divider at that location. Heat kills batteries, cold just makes it apparent.

From Interstates web site -
The fact is, summer heat can be even more damaging than winter?s cold temperatures when it comes to car batteries. And yet, few people give batteries a thought during the heat of summer. The cold hard truth is that:
  • When the mercury rises, a car battery's strength goes down.
  • Extreme heat, like 95? F outside combined with high temperatures under the hood, accelerates corrosion of car batteries.
  • Heat causes the water to evaporate out of battery fluid, breaking down the battery grids.
BTW - Location looks great.

I've always suspected car and truck batteries should be installed near the rear bumper instead of under the hood with that hot azz engine.:faint2:

My wife's MB battery is in the trunk and my Mom's Caddy is under the back seat.

Ayuh,.... My thought on battery placement is,....
The closer to the transom, the better the ride...
The further forward the batteries are, the More they get Beaten...

'n, I can tell ya from experience, our hulls ride ROUGH, in choppy water...

My batteries ride in the aft most corners,...
That provides the Least amount of Beatin' of the batteries, 'n works for the shortest wire runs necessary...

Sooner or later.... it had to come up! Glad you are getting it done and out of the way now! Otherwise I'd get sea sick... :puke:

Just kiddin! :) Looks like a fine placement for the batts...

Next?......

Oh no! Deja vu all over again. I think I'm gonna get a charge out of this.

Do you have room on either side of the motor? I forget your layout back there. In front of the motor takes up deck space.

Deja Vu? Ah, no. More like going round in circles, again and again:topsy_turvy:

Ya, guys, they won't fit at the transom, no room.

So yup, they either go in the port side seat box or right in front of the engine. Like I mentioned earlier, given how things are now coming together, it make the most sense for em to be under the doghouse:mullet:

Only if it's aboard the Islander :watermelon: and probably not even then....

I don't let just any 'ole scruffy boat builder give me a smooch..... Kinda finicky, ya know?

It's all good, progress is progress, even if it recovers old ground. If sitting & thinkin' counts, revisiting old ideas, for whatever reason, counts.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

One difference from what I was talking about way back is I'll not have a seat or rod holders there. I'm just going to build out the dog house with some nice lines, simple. It'll eat up less deck space and I'll still have seating for 6 with the jump seats. Alllll good!

You might have room for 4 or 5 rods if you did this in the top front of you dog house above the batteries,...
