Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

moriarty - The Bay should be open at that time (Lake Huron) though it'll be a cold run for sure. Certain of one thing, this boat will need a few solid runs before I haul her all that way!

Last year it was 85 degrees and we were catching walleye. Salmon were also going that time last year so GET THE ISLANDER READY!!!

So yah, this new guy. c.peet is his handle. Yah, he's an Aussie you know. Apparently he can dish it out...

Bah, those stinkin aussies:doh:

Only thing worse are those darn kanucks, eh!:canada:

Hahaha!! I guess there's no hope for me then. I'm actually an oznuck (Australian/Canadian) my old man is from Ontario and my mother is an Aussie. Lived over there for nine years and moved here in '96. So I guess it don't matter which way I turn, I'm a lost cause. At least I can say it's in the genes.

Keep up the good work Jas. Just remember if you slack off I'm one of the mob now... :D

Got the clamps off that seat box, ran a quick dry fit to be sure I didn't screw anything up, and started building in some beef. First up, laminating an extra 1/2" to the vertical panel...

Nothing special, just one more baby step this morning.:playful:

What are you using to glue those pieces of ply together? Titebond? PL? 4200/5200?

Also seems to be a theme:

But I'm not a fan...

BTW: The glue up on the seat base continues to look good & stout...

Should've used polyester resin and cabosil with a touch of chop strand! Then again it would be the strongest part of the boat, and you shouldn't build up beyond the strength of aluminum hull. Ya know on second thought forget it, any old glue will do, maybe just use one of those hot glue guns from the dollar store.

So, little more work on the port side seat box.

I took the router to all the corners, cut out the hatches and cut out the hatch "rings". Actually, those "rings" are full length and full width of the seat box top, bomber! The whole top is 1" thick.

Here's a shot of the rings getting laminated...

I have a few more "beef" pieces to laminate for added structure/strength and then on to epoxy.

--------------------------------------------------

Fellas, I do hope you all have a fantastic Christmas!
