Jas,.......A wiffle ball bat with the handle cut off so as to fit over the tiller handle on the kicker makes for a great "bottom feeder" accessory,...........................

Motor sounds good. Wouldn't be a bad idea to give her a good decarb, esp if the PO did a lot of trolling with it.

I know what you mean and many condolences for your mom..............

extra hugs for the Admiral and all the other mom's out there today (and every day)

just like Truck, next month is going to hurt like ****, lost dad 4 years ago............

on the evinrude 15 kicker, nice find, but make sure you always hook up a battery to it, or you will fry the rectifier in short order.........
i would hook it up anyway, to test the charging system and the starter, make sure it runs sweet before you get too involved.

and definitely do a total decarb, you might find it runs super sweet after that with no adjustment

if you know about leroys ramblings, his pages are a gold mine on all things johnson/evinrude 9 to 15 HP , the bloke is a bloody genius.

decarb files : http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=299680

and Leroys totally cool intel : http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/ramblings.html

oh, yeah and before i forget ( getting to old for my own good here :D) the 15HP likes to use a lot of fuel, so at least a 6 gallon tank for her would be a great idea ......

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks guys, it was kind of a hard weekend but Sunday night ended really well with a nice BBQ at my place.:)

---------------------

Yah, I think I'll do a full maintenance on that kicker, water pump, carbs, oil...

I did spot Leroy's pages there, man what great/detailed information!!:D

The previous owner said that he was having trouble with the electric start so he wasn't using it. I'll have to chase that down too.

No rush to get this little motor settled, she'll see her day.:)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Yah, I hear ya mag. I'll see about getting that starboard side seat box installed in the next couple of days.

Port side (with the fish box) has a bunch of steps that have to be done in absolutely the correct order. If I get those steps wrong I'll make a gigantic headache for myself. I'll probably post that up once it's all in.

I kinda sorta feel like once I get those installed the major structure components of this boat will be in place and I can start moving on to finishing type fun stuff - plub, electrical, paint, rigging, vinyl....:)

is the splash date still set for the B-day party???

Yah, the hand is really healing up well. I have a follow up visit today with my doc. He was supposed to take off the splint deal that I took off a week ago. I'll need to fabricate a story why it had to come off early:D

Yup, I still have Ryan's Birthday as my float deadline, 7/26;)

------------------------------------------

I got some great progress in this morning with the port side fish box. Though I do have 5200 in every crevice of my body as usual:rolleyes:

Hmmm, float deadline.... Not going to use the big 'S' word, but the b-day won't be a fully functioning launch? A newly aquired tiller handle boat motivator might need to be pressed into service. I'm just saying....

Have a great visit w/ the doctor. You are not a very good patient.....

The splint doo-hicky got wet & had to come off doc....

The SN foam beast ate it....

Nicely handled earlier, BTW. You must work in a public school system as a teacher: calm, cool & collected:)

agree with JB x2
hope i ended that off on a good note, and i meant exactly what i said, if not for the awesome people here, i would have never bought the princecraft, the johnsons, the new motors, or anything else i have done on the boat.........:)

ok,ok, i would have done the transom anyway, that i remember how to do:p

okay splash date of 7/23 then......... hey you have to do a sea trial before you put her in service ...........

and DEFINITLY a video of it as well............ the one you did on the SS was the bomb, i was glad i got to take a ride with you during that

however that being said, there is a MFG glasser in the back yard that has been seriously neglected............

Jas, I'm an hour away from Midland. If you need an extra hand to make that important splash date just holler.

OK guys, I just got some super awesome news and some additional pressure to get this Islander done.

Jen just called and gave me a heads up that she booked a cabin on Manistique Lake (Yooperland) for the 3rd weekend in July - just a short fun family vacation deal...

THIS BOAT MUST BE READY. THIS BOAT WILL BE READY!

I hate locking myself in like that, but it must be done!

I just counted, I have about 9 weeks. Game on.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Don't be WOG (no disrespect meant) shoot for an earlier deadline for the initial 'float' day (float = code for an ambiguous splash date), that way you'll be able to trouble shoot any unsatisfactory issues that ALWAYS arise?!

BTW, doing the math (tough on me) the third weekend is July 21-22!

I like the weekend of July 13-14 for sea trials, as I can be around, along with everyone else, to congratulate you for a job well DONE!

I don't comment very ofter, being a glasser, but following your rebuild is like watching a daytime soap opera, keeps me entertained when I'm bored and there's twists and turns at every post (MBS, trips to the ED, side projects, battery placement [had too], etc...). In the words of Mr. Miyagi "focus".

Ciao,

Brett

HA! Yah, this thread kinda reminds me of a cat herding, three ring circus, train wreck sort of a deal:eek::D

Oh I hear ya on the Sea Trial too. My informal timeline says that I'd really like to run a Sea Trial right before or right after the 4th of July weekend. From there I still have time to work out bugs and put the finishing items in place.

I can do it, I just need to focus, and not sleep, and drink more coffee:facepalm::)
