I'm a big fan of symmetry so I'm biased. What if you raised the starboard box to match? More storage and no spendy seat posts.

Yah, I like symmetry too. At first I didn't think it would bother me but now sitting them in place there I think it really will bother me.

no spendy seat posts.

You want to hear something real dumb?

That helm seat pictured up there ^^^^? They came with sweet Wise pedestals. I sold them as I was thinking there was no way I'd use em:facepalm::facepalm::rolleyes:

I'm glad I am tolerated around here:redface:

I'm in agreement with Michael here. When they are all painted or carpeted or whatever finish is on them, they will blend in and look great. As long as you don't glass them in, you could change or alter them in the future without it being a major remodel job. In agreement with JB too, nice fab work on them!

Why not build up the starboard side to match the port side?

All you are doing is creating more storage that way as I see it. The huge built-in cooler would be nice.:)

Jas - I have been with you since day one on the Islander then Jet Star then Islander rebuild (plus the highschool canoe project), you inspired me to rebuild my 1979 Sylvan Sea Master. I was wondering if you have plans for easy removal of the livewell (cooler) on the port side, just incase you want to do an end of year scrub-out or eventual cooler replacement? How about a hindge door in which you can slide/pull the cooler out?

HA, JB - Funny, I think we are seeing things from different directions. I kinda see the size needing to be what the port side is currently, shorter, giving the boat a roomier feel to it, more open sorta. You guys are seeing the boxes as needing to be bigger for more storage, making the need for the starboard side to be bigger. Huh......

Walleye - Hey, welcome to the project(s) and I'm glad you have stayed with me:D

Well, any way I run it the cooler/fish box install will be permanent. I'll be sealing/foaming it all in there so no water can work its way along the sides. My goal is to make the hatch opening big enough to get in there for cleaning purposes. Stay tuned, we'll see how this part shakes out.

Have a great Sunday guys:)

Well, for the past week or so I have left those seat boxes sit in the Islander. Every time I walk by, I check em out and stew on it. I just didn't like the difference in height between the two. I really needed them to be the same, so, I chopped the top off the port side...

As soon as I set it back in there for a look I liked it. I know it's not but the boat will feel a little bigger like this. Plus being uniform with the starboard side is good stuff:)

So then I chopped the top off of the cooler...

And set it in place...

Going this direction I'll not be using the lid to the cooler - which means that while I chopped a bunch off the seat box itself I'm really only losing a few inches off the top of what will be the actual fish box.

Yup, I am happy with this route!

Hey, Have an awesome Easter guys:D

Looks good Jason, does look a lot less clunky being the same height.

I like it man. There is no doubt in my mind that you will seal up the exposed edges of the cooler to be bullet proof. Symmetry is good and I think your right about the roomyness with lower boxes.

I like it Jas. I do have a question though? Perhaps I fell asleep somewhere during the blueberry pie, the gelatin stapler or your birthday wishes, but it seems to me back in post 3856, you reached a decision after being resoundingly beaten. So, what is that black cube foreward of the cooler in the picture? You got some esplainin' to do Lucy! - Grandad

Even stephen... looks sharp. Man... leave anything lying around near the table saw it it'll be chopped down at your house eh??? Yikes!

It does look better though IMHO.

Cheers.
