What advantage should one get with a Mariner 9.9 big foot over a 9.9 standard?

Re: Big Foot Sighting

Different gear ratio and different props. A bigfoot lower unit has a higher numerical gear ratio than a standard gear case. It allows the engine to twist a prop that is larger in diameter and with more pitch. They are intended for pushing heavy loads such as kickers on large boats, sail boats, and pontoons. Set up correctly, it will perform properly on a conventional boat but they are long shaft so it would not work well on a boat that requires a short shaft engine.
