Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild
glad to see the 'Skillet' didn't make an unexpected & sudden cameo....
It's been awhile, but the rest of the outdrive is in as good a shape? Just a little cleanup, a few new fittings & some grease correct. Thumber lives on..... AKA: 'SS Thump-en-stein?'
Somehow I have been quiet enough to keep my bride asleep but loud enough to get the job done
Yah, the outdrive will be one of the last things I'll get my hands on actually. It's hard to say for sure at this point but I believe there is just a bit of surface rust on the U Joints that needs attention, and, certainly the water pump will need to be changed out.
I decided to push that way to the back of the job as it'll just be sticking in my way as I am working in the garage there. So long as I do a good job aligning the engine, the outdrive install should give me no trouble when I get to it.
Lovin all the how to vids. I'm thinking I need to do the same on our ski boat this year. Where did you get that Merc tool kit at and what did it all include? When u gonna swing that motor in? Your getting awfully close now.
DISCLAIMER!!!
These videos are in no way shape or form a how to!!!! Yah, I have a sign that says Mercruiser Service up on the wall but I am winging every step here! I have searched a ton for a video on a gimbal bearing
install but I could not find one. So, pretty much everything I am doing here is virgin ground really, I just hope I don't screw it up!!! Listen! I was dropped as a baby! Lots!!! And I ate paint chips through my wonder years (still do from time to time actually)!
Anyhow....
Here is the set that I got, great deal I think...

I don't believe they intended that round piece to be used they way I did in the video up there (per their instructions), but uh, well, it worked perfect!
Yah, getting closer to the engine install
I think I'll finish up the transom assembly service first (bellows, bell housing, etc...) then move inside the Islander for V6 flight
