Nice cartwheel MP. LOL

Geez, there must be 20lbs of paint still on there!! House paint too by the looks of some of it.

Thanks guys, the cart is working pretty sweetly. I count 5 different colors of paint and yes it has definately been soaking in salt water. Yesterday I started scraping it with a sharpened garden hoe. Works beter than the pressure washer. I rolled the beast onto a tarp and after doing about 25% I collected somewhere around 1/2 gallon of paint chips.

I do not envy that task you have before you, that's a TON of paint to remove.

I see some bare metal showing thru there on the stern. Keep after it and hopefully we'll see more and more aluminum:)

There is a 17 Y.O. gent in the neighborhood looking for work.

Planning ahead now....Fuel tank

I've been looking into below deck tanks and want to share what I found and get some advice. The moeller tanks have the fittings in poor spots for my application but Inca makes a couple contenders and they seem to have a lower profile over all, see Inca FO1921 (19 gal.) and Inca FT2306 (23 gal.). Google those and you'll find limited suppliers but the price is really good. I'd rather have all the connections in the stern so all I have to do is make the bildge access cut-out in the deck bigger keeping it all under the splash well, the 23 gal allows me to do that best but the fill is on the starboard and the fill hole in the splash well is on the port so I'll have the fill tube crossing the area (not clean) and the 19 I may have to fill and vent on port gunwale and have an access hatch in the deck (sucks). The 23 gal tank is 47 1/2" long and the 19 gal. is 53" long. Having said that I have 3 questions: 1) I will be running an Evinrude 90hp V4 weighing 300 lbs. so how much fuel should I carry? I mostly troll and cruise on day trips and it would be rare to pull skiers or tubes then maybe a 3 day fishing trip once in a while. 2) Weight distribution...The end of the tank will be as far aft as possible and I plan to put the battery also below deck at the bulkhead as far forward as possible. This is pretty much the same setup as Brighp2. Will this be acceptable weight distribution? 3) Is it safe to have the battery and fuel in the same semi closed compartment? I do plan to ventilate.

Here is an older thread that will add to this topic. As barato stated I could add a vent to the end of the 23 gallon tank I'm looking at so it can be filled if the boat isn't level.

I bit the bullet and rented a sand blaster to finsh the paint stripping. Next time I will do the whole boat this way. Only cost about $150 for everything and if I didn't have problems with the blaster we could have done the bottom in a few hours. Used play sand and it kept clogging the 1/8" nozzel so I removed it completely and it worked great. The thing crapped out JUST before we finished. A hole blew through the mixing valve and 140 psi cut loose and made a big hole in the ground. There is only about the area of my arm left to strip but thats no problem to clean up.

Play sand is too wet for blasting, next time buy the dry blasting sand and everything will go much smoother.

You're doing a great job on that boat and it'll be a jewel when you're finished.

Now that every speck of paint is off the bottom I can see the extent of the pitting and its pretty bad. Paint was filling everything so it didn't show. There is a 1/16" hole all the way through, a hand full that are close and big areas of rash. The inside looks surprisingly good and all the rivits seem sound. I'm thinking about filling the worst with Marine Tex and use Coat It on the entire underside. Maybe use some of my epoxy, if that will work it should be cheaper.

As long as you are going to paint it, or it isn't gonna be exposed to UV then normal resin should be fine.

Glad you got her stripped so quickly, Citristrip would've taken a few weeks for that hull.

Yea I'm planning to paint, good thing because I have no choice. Sandblasting is the only way I could have cleaned all the pits. Hope your right about the epoxy otherwise I'm looking at maybe 3 kits of Coat It or Gluvit. Its all epoxy right? Another positive is the surface should suck up anything I put on it.

Gluvit is epoxy resin with zinc chromate added. That's why it's got a green tint to it.

You could spray some ZC prior to applying the resin, or mix it right in and probably have a reverse-engineered homemade Gluvit.:)

Prep Prep Prep. Lots of filling and hand sanding this weekend and its starting to look and feel good. We think the color will be that stealth grey that you see on silverados. It wont be a perfect match but hoping to get close.

Well I took a much needed fishing trip up north. The weather was great and even got into the salmon and brookies.

Other than hand sanding and a bit more filling not much has been going on on the hull. I did order the 23 gallon belly tank vs 19 gal - same price.

Did you guys know they make big noodles? Get ready to drool. :D
