Nice job Mike! Kelly's right, that motor looks fresh from the crate.

Thanks guys. That metal flake OEM paint was a wicked bear to get right but its on. I got very lucky with the OEM decals, my dealer could only find 2 sets in the entire country and one of them was an opened package so something could have been missing. If anyone needs any decals that go on under the cowl let me know as I didn't need any of those.

Yoop - Yes there is some buzz at the moment on paint/prep. Thanks for the link but I've already studied that and others. Now I've found a new product (Prekote) that seems to be new to folks here so that gets thrown into the mix. My issues are: 1) I don't want to use a chrome conversion due to the fact that I'm on a shallow well. 2) Can't get a ZC primer in the state. 3) Can't get etching primer in quarts and don't want to rattle can because I need a high build. So far I'm still leaning toward the process I noted on post 116.

Excellent job on the motor. I havn'tseen much information on the prekote but from the information they give it seems like it would work. I noticed you had started a thread on the 545 epoxy primer but i havn't had a chance to respond. Yacht Dr recomended that to me to use after the chromate conversion. Seems like good stuff but it's pretty expensive

yea I'm surprised there aren't any hits on that thread but thanks for the feed back. If YD says its good then it must be. The pro stuff is pricey but I'm sure its for good reason. The 1 qt kit of 545 will run me about $100 but I'd probably spend $50 on rattle cans anyway so another $50 for ease and piece of mind is worth it to me. Been talking to the manager of the paint dept of a local yacht company. He was good enough to offer to GIVE me some left over Pettit paint but when I added up everything else I'd need I'd still be into it for $350 including the 545. Not bottom feeder enough for me.

Ya I'm kind of a bottom feeder as well. I will probably spend the extra money on the awlgrip paint just for piece of mind. I'm sure I could get away with using Rustoleum but I only want to paint mine once.

Thanks dozer. I'm pleased with it and will make a hoisting lug to mount it back on the boat to avoid strapping it from the lower cowl and risking the paint.

I just reinstalled the factory serial# tag with 3M 90 contact adhesive and came up with a trick to get rid of the VOID part that shows up when you lay it on something dark. I painted the underside with Rusto white and poof its gone.

My local HD just started carrying Rusto self etch primer yesterday and my local body man hooked me up with a source for Matrin Senour etching primer in quarts if I want to shoot it. This means I'm definately going the Rusto plan per WoG's instructions. Wife is warming up to black on white so if the hull comes out good that could happen.

The Interlux or Pettit rout would run me about $360 just to do below the gunwales so thats out. Awlgrip would cost that much even with free paint.

I want to thank you paint masters for your advice and patients! Enough with the paint debate already and back to work!

Nice job on the OB, looks sweet MP.

I thought about redoing my '62 Johnny 28, but I can live with the "rustic look" for awhile. LOL

I just want to get the Nymph put back together and hit the lake! Launch date is penciled in for the 23rd, but we shall see.... I should be ready to go, but its depending on USPS for delivery of doo-dads.

Guess I should go work on her.... LOL

Im kinda partial to blue on white myself, I think she would look "wicked good" with those colors.

Thanks Bouttime. You must be close to finished on the Nymph by now. We've been having some fine weather for boating and boat building lately but I've been doing more of the latter. Blue is my back up color. Wicked good has got to be used alot around here since it is a good name but I don't like naming boats. To me it affects potential resale value and I like the more understated look.

Filled a bunch of holes on the top sides with aluminum backer plates held in with Locktite 5570 and filled with marine tex. That tex kicks off damed fast in 90? weather! Working on a inverted starcraft carriage, just need 1 more wheel burrow tire that holds air.

Nice weather ? 90's here 400% humidity, way too hot at work and ain't doing nothing but sitting in the AC at home. It's inhumane like putting a polar bear in a sauna:) Great to hear your making progress wheel barrow tires should make for a nice all terrain inverted SC keep at it. I'm off work tomorrow and Wednesday so I can sit here and drink beer and watch your progress :D

Weather has been good, but damn HOT!

Still waiting for my shifter cable to arrive, till then Im tidying up some uglyness and adding do-dads. Cant wait to hit the lake again with the old girl.

Yes I agree its definately on the hot side but I'm managing to make some progress anyway. Got the Inverted SC carriage done last night. The black cubes are foam filled boxes coverd with a trash bag. The boat will rest on those when I get it where I want it. Just picture it up side down. Did some grinding on the marine tex patches now they are ready for the finish coat. Also made some T-bolts for the windshield. The close up pic didn't come out well bit its just a stainless #10 x 1/2" pan head with a washer welded and milled a flat on both sides.

Nice job with the carriage sure looks heavy duty. Glad you clarified the boxes I thought maybe you ran out of room for tide jugs and Jas told you to fasten some flotation on the gunwales:rolleyes: Good idea on those T screws probably better than original.
