Re: 1964 15' Starcraft Aluminum Runabout Project

IQFT.

I quit for today. I got the third coat on and again it has the dot pattern from the roller pan. I think it's the heat, it got up to 82 this afternoon.

So looks like I'll be at it again early tomorrow morning while it's cool.

Any other suggestions? Would thinning it less be a good idea?

Anyway, last coat tomorrow, I'll be out of paint and then "it is what it is".

Thanks, boatguy, I really like the shade of red. But frustrated again after today.

Trouble spots look like this:

I keep fantasizing about myself painting in a nice big well lit garage. No bugs or floating crap to deal with.

Should be in the 60's when I get out there tomorrow morning with the sandpaper. I also picked up 6" rollers tonight. The paint goes on so much better in the 70's or below it seems.

Nice job, 57 starcraft. I really like that seating set up, they were so unique in those days. Welcome to the forum.

The tarp comes down tomorrow!

The final coat is on!

After repairing yesterday's coat with 220 sanding, then Scotch pad, I was finished by 8:15 a.m. Again, it looks 1000% better. Pictures to follow!:D

The temp. when I started was 68 and up to 73 when I finished. Conclusion: Temperature makes all the difference. I think the larger 6" rollers helped too, I could do larger sections and work faster.

It's not perfect but not bad for a first time if I do say so myself. I'm glad this phase is over!!!:):):)

Next on to the dashboard. Was gonna go to Lowe's but now it's raining. Maybe tomorrow. I have to check a few things about my steering & controls first anyway before I move on with my plan.
