Thanks, fellas, I guess there's a reason it looks like it was done by an amateur!! But I'm pleased for a first attempt.

Personally I think you should come paint mine when it is ready that way you can just get more practice. That and I will get a sweet looking paint job to boot. Very nice Lakelover.

That's a vote of confidence!

Answer me this: would too much thinner make the paint dry too fast? It definitely was shinier after the second coat. It was almost like it was drying before I could really finish my application and roll out. I'm thinkin' I might have to go for a 4th coat.

This is a spot where you can see the roller imprint. The dots are from the pattern of the plastic paint tray where you roll the excess out. These often appear as I'm first rolling paint on, but as I work it around they disappear. I couldn't seem to get rid of them this time. That's why I thought maybe it was drying too fast.

Re: 1964 15' Starcraft Aluminum Runabout Project

Fourth and FINAL! coat is on. After my troubles yesterday, all is right with the world, and it looks 1000% better.

At our local expert's (Woodonglass) suggestion, I sanded those spots down with 220. Then went over all with a scotch pad, carefully mixed the paint potion and went at it again. I could tell as soon as I started that it would be better by how it was going on.

I think a couple things entered in yesterday: too much thinner, and hotter/dryer weather than the day before, causing the paint to dry too fast, almost before I could finish getting it on.

I'll spare you more pictures until there's something different to look at!

Next stretch of good weather we get, I'll be tackling the topside.

Never again will I commit such an egregious gaffe!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

"Amateur"--Wood, you shoulda seen it yesterday. I went to bed discouraged. But the "first day of summer" sun woke me up at 5 a.m. so I got up to face the error of my ways and made amends. Now, if you guys will just forgive me...
