Thanks MP, I THINK I got the carbs figured out. I broke the Tab off one of the floats and had to order another float. It'll be here today, I HOPE, so If it is, I'm hoping to have her back together and fire her up tonite. We'll see. Turns out that I did Not have the tab set correctly and it was Not hitting the needle valve and shutting it off properly. The top carb seemed to be working fine so I took it of to compare and noticed the difference. I started to bend the tab on the bottom float and BING it broke off. Got one on Evil Bay for 6 bucks so Hopefully we're back in business. I checked my PM's and got Nuttin from ya. Not sure if it's the NEW IMPROVED forum or what. I did send you a link about your Grinder Woes. Did you get that???

While looking at Craigslist last night I found this, a Chris Craft that is "wood on glass" that has been restored.

Oh CARP!!!! That's my Retirement Project!!!
If that CC isn't your next project, I may have to come out and grab it Wood. Nice looking boat for sure, but its no Lone Star either. I may end up finishing the tuning the twin 35's tonight, with some minor glass work I'll have them mounted and perhaps synced before the snow flies. I owe you some pictures, but let's hear that new power plant sing...

Well, it's been raining since 4:00 pm and I'm NOT complaining cuz we need it and My Lake for sure needs it. (Down 6 ft). So the Motor Fire up is delayed until tomorrow...Maybe!! Forecast for more rain!!! We'll see how it goes. I'm super confident that she's 100% ready to go. If not I got my eyes on this nice little Windy on Craigslist!!!!! I just need to figure out how to shift one of these things into reverse and how to pull tubers with it!!!

My dear, good sir!

If you found a problem with the carb and repaired it, I see no reason whatsoever:rolleyes:... you should be doubting the outcome......
You will have a :lock1: on this...

Just in case keep the C-list handy......;)

Anxiously awaiting the outcome!:D

^^yup...that's exactly how I was envisioning you...fyi-our smallest boat, little 14' polarcraft, has served us so well for at least 8-10 yrs, with a 15hp Yamaha tiller was long ago named, SS Minnow...biggest fish off of that little boat-62lb Wahoo(my son caught it)...made the paper and everything...That little boat has sloshed around in quite the rough weather..now let's quit gabbin' & get that motor purring!!!

It was a BEE-U-Tee-Ful Day in Okie land today. I was looking forward to Firing up the motor and testing her out so, I did, but... Doncha just hate those butts!!! I do. She fired right up Carbs did NOT leak she idled perfectly, shifted perfectly I was a happy camper for about 30 secs. I noticed that water was coming out the prop but NOT the Pee Holes. HMMM rev her a bit still NADA. About 2 mins later the Over Heating Alarm went off so I shut her down. Either the Impellar is not working or the Thermostat (Verna Therm) is not allowing water to circulate. Soooo...I popped the Lower unit off AGAIN, and checked the impellar. It appears to be Perfeftly fine. So I went to investigate the Therostat. Got it out and it was in bad shape after sitting for 13 years. I Called the 2 local Johnson dealers and neither have a Verna Therm for a 76' Johnson. So, started soaking it in Xylene and scrubbing on it with a brass brush and I THINK I got it freed up. I have NO IDEA but I did reinstall it and I did get everything put back together except for putting the lower unit oil back in. I'll do that in the morning and try firing her back up one more time. It seems like getting this old Girl Back to her old self is a never ending story but I'm learning a lot. Just wish I was younger an a bit more Spry!!!! My grandkids popped in this evening for a surprise visit so I might get distracted tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. Hope everyone else has a great weekend.

Wonderful news on the carbs...not so great on the t-stat...I would suggest, before committing the t-stat to engine service, that you do a quick boil test on it to confirm and make absolutely sure it is functioning properly...
Pot of water, piece of wire hanger to suspend the t-stat in the water, not touching the pot, and a food thermometer that can read beyond what the t-stat is rated to open at...
Heat, watch and when it starts to open note the temp...that will give you a real indication of whether it is working AND working at the right temp!
Have fun with the grandkids and happy Saturday!:D

Bad News..Good News.

Gunna start with the Bad. As I told you last post, my Daughter and S.I.L. came over with the GK's this weekend so I knew my work time would be limited. It was the SIL's 39th B'Day. They went out Sat. Nite to Celebrate and on the way home...

We feel very BLESSED!!! Daughter's back is Oughta Whack still but basically, for now, we're thinking they're ok. With these things sometimes it doesn't show up for a while. We'll have to wait and see. Thankfully the kids were with us and NOT in the back seat!!!!

Good news. The Verna Therm on the Motor is nothing like what a Thermostat is like on a car. Funky lookin little think but it was for sure stuck. I wire brushed it and kerosened it and it DID Un-Stick!!!! It works in conjunction with a valve box etc to get the water flowing. I put everything back together and Early Sunday afternoon...

Guess one evening after work this week, the Admiral and I will try for another Splash. I'll keep you all posted.

I'm a Happy WOG ON BOTH COUNTS!!!

P.S. Sorry bout da Side Ways Vids That's how my phone produced em.!!!

Sorry to hear about the bad ending to what should have been a great night, but very happy to hear they are OK...the rest is just a bunch of crunched up metal that did its job the way it was supposed too. Nothing but Good Thoughts sent their way!

The Johnson sounds fantastic! Glad to hear all of the land locked problems are gone...now hopefully it will behave itself in the wet...I bet the Blue Flamingo isn't even going to need wings to fly with that power house on its tail...:bolt:

Best of luck on the upcoming Splash...:thumb:

Yep, you should be happy on both counts, if everyone is ok. For some reason, me and carbs never got along, one of the few things I outsource....you should be proud!...cant wait for a vid of that big hog pushing the BF.....you may have to sew in some seat belts ;)...
