Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

naturally nothing fits so I will have to build that....maybe I'm being too pessimistic, what do you guys think
I'm going to sleep on it and see what I think about it in the am. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

There is no sense in being pessimistic since it wont work any way!!!:D

With what you have done with Miss Morgan Never be pessimistic what ever you do will turn out great. I like the look of the platform BTW

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

Ok, just a quick update. I spent the weekend at the lake putting in a new AC unit......12 hours of crawling around on my hands and knees running ductwork.....I wouldn't make it as an HVAC guy! Well we now have AC, which will come in handy now that its getting into the 90's. I did look at the swim platform with David K last week and he convinced me to move forward with it.....I already have the materials, so why not. I took today off from work to catch up on yard work.....all the construction at the lake has me behind at home. Anyhow I'm hoping to work up the gas tank CAD drawing later and get things moving on the boat again.

Will you have a mirror image of the ladder on the other side of the Tower Of Power?
On a side note, will the dock that I assume you are putting in after your wall is done be 100% floating since you are on a resevoir?

Yes the swim platforms will mirror about the motor. I'm still toying with which side to put the ladder on, I'm even wondering if I need one. The lower unit makes a nice step. I actually already have a dock, its around the corner a little more sheltered than the area in front of the house. We can get 3-1/2' waves in front of the house, so its not the best place for the dock. My dock is floating, we can get elevation changes of about 20'.

I say put the step on each side, then you don't have to worry about someone slipping off the lower unit, prop blades are sharp (don't ask)
Here are my steps

Was curious about the dock since we are in the same situation and am finishing up our new floating dock.

Ok I got a little more work done on the boat tonight. I reworked the swim platform mock up a little to get the shape the way I originally planned. The slots aren't right, but its overall shape is correct. The corners will be radiused, I just didn't round them for the mock up.

I also tinkered with how to mount my limit switch. I noticed on the engine wiring diagrams that some models came with a limit switch, naturally mines not set up for it. Sorting out how to mount it will be the trick. Its pretty low on my priory list, so that may wait for a while. I have say the switch is a high quality item, and can be wired for normally open or closed.

I also finalized the fuel tank size and locations for the filler and vent. I'm working on drawing it up to send in for a final quote and fabrication.

I can also answer my question about what happens to the sticky square thing when it gets hot....looks like I get to redo that. Anyone have any suggestions on mounting them? I can screw in clips, but it will be a PITA given the clearances I have in the gunnels.

I also put up my ski pole with the detent pins I ordered. Its about a 100 times easier to put it up now that all the joints have detent pins, both ends and at the connection between the concentric tubes.

I cant really screw the tank to the floor, so I'm toying with gluing down a stainless bracket with epoxy. I'm thinking about drilling a bunch of holes in the plate where it is glued to the floor. I'm wondering if letting the glue (west systems 6 ten) ooze through those holes will create a dove tail kind of joint between the bracket and epoxy. Has anyone tired anything like that?

How bout some 5 min epoxy thickened with some talc. Use acetone to clean off the adhesive and then A lil' dab'l do ya, acetone clean under the gunwales and duct tape it home. Once one is on stretch the line out do the other end, then go back and do the rest.

Hey Arch. When we had issues with those wiring pads coming off in control cabinets we started attaching them with epoxy. They rarely came off once they were attached that way. You can get those pads without the double sided tape on them. Platform looks good that way. Much better than the other mock up IMO.

This is the epoxy we used. Used to order the cups by the cases. Any two part epoxy adhesive should work.

Looks like wood beat me to the punch. LOL.

Hey Arch I work with those Sticky back wiring tabs all the time, best thing I have seen to make them stay is Gorilla Glue. You will need to put a bit of duct tape over them just to hold while they set but they are about as permanent as you can get then.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

I thought about gluing it on, but when I pulled the foam tape off the plastic, it had a lot of places where the glue would squish out. I guess you could leave the foam on, I was just wondering if the epoxy was compatable with the glue on the foam? Finished the tank drawing and sent it off to verify the pricing....they said 7 to 10 days, so I should be able to get it here before summer official starts! I will probally put it in over Memorial weekend....to many idiots out that weekend for me!

Thanks Triton....they were proud of it! Wood, I think I'm going to try the epoxy route and see what happens. I may poke around at Ace today to see if I can find something that will work better.....never know what you are going to come across!

I'm sure you said somewhere, but if that's a wire that you're using the "stick'em ups" on, then I'd recommend running some of that cheap, already slit black plastic conduit and then epoxy those tabs in. That way, if you need to access or change the wire, you have easy access without the need to remove the conduit. Just a thought.

Its actually LED lights, not a wire. So I need some clips , not a conduit, but thanks for the suggestion.

Now I remember! BTW, I've been following your thread for a while and you did an awesome job on this restore! Come down to Florida anytime and you can start on mine. And, i'll even buy the beer.

Arch,
I tried to send you a pm but your box is full. I have a source for a double sided tape that will peel the paint before it turns loose.

I had a feeling about the sticky stuff. I like the ski pole though.

Just sent a revised drawing to the tank people....the sending unit was taller than I thought. Hopefully tomorrow they can finalize my my order and get it headed this way.
