It will be a few years before I can think about building the house....I have been placing the dirt in about 8" lifts and wheel rolling it with the bobcat. Not exactly the way to do it, but it is packing in really tight. I figure with a couple years of settling and some wide footings we should be good.

Yeah, If it's gunna be two years before a slab you should be good. I'd done some of that "KUNSTRUKSHUN" stuff and in OKIEHOME-UH Foundation Settlin' kin be QUITE a problem as I am sure you are AWARE!!!

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

I had some time last night on the boat, so I worked on the water pump rebuild. I had seen Jay's video on the merc stern drive, as I guessed the outboard was similar. I read up on it in my Seloc manual, but as normal the one shown as an exaple was differnt from mine....they like to skip steps to....useful tool, but you always have to fill in the blanks! They didn't mention a couple of nuts that have to be removed to drop off the lower unit.....its weird how specific they can be about a couple of bolts, then not even mention a couple of nuts that have to come off! Anyhow I got the lower unit off and spread out my new parts on a towel.

It was only a few bucks more for the entire water pump kit, so I figured why not? For $10 more I will sleep better at night! The housing was in pretty good shape, but as you can see the slinger washer was starting to crack.

The impeller didn't have any cracks in it, but there were some stress marks that would be cracks soon. It was also pretty dried out and hard. I had a little trouble getting the lower half of the water pump housing out, but eventually with some prying it popped out. After that it was a matter of matching up gaskets and parts and reassembeling.

I love this, its like a carb kit....you put it back together, then hope the left over parts aren't important, lol!

I didn't have time to put the lower unit back on, but should get that done this weekend. I also picked up some gear oil for it today, lovely stuff.....great smell!

Next I want to start on the swim platform...and a mock up of the back panel so I can get the gas tank ordered.

He arch there is one word that you need to get familiar with to compact that dirt. Water. Not too much at one time but slow and steady. You can buy a pump and get the water form the lake. set up a sprinkler and wet for about 4 hours a day for 6 weeks or so packing with B-cat or tractor before you wet the next day.

I'm guessing when the lake floods anything that is loose will settle. I spent some time on the boat tonight, got the lower unit back on....that was easier said than done....it took a number of tries to get everything lined up where it would go on. But with some help from my Dad I got it back on. After that I pumped the lower unit full of gear oil, I hate that stuff! It has the nastiest smell! I can't imagine working at the plant where they make that stuff! After that I worked on some cardboard mock ups of the swim platform....made some progress, but I need to work some more on it tomorrow!

Glad to hear you got it all back together. Looking forward to seeing your ideas on the SP design and build. I am about 1/2 day away from being ready for my 1'st coat of primer. I bought a 60 gallon compressor last week and a new Hvlp gun so we'll see if i'm Half the painter you are.

Good luck with the paint Wood, hope it goes smoothly for you. I would say painting went smoothly...but it didn't for me! I dropped half a cup of sealer all over the floor, me and the mixing table.....but after cleaning up the mess I took a deep breath and relaxed a bit....went a lot better after that, lol! Guess i just had to get it out of my system! I didn't get anymore time on the boat this weekend, spent most of yesterday afternoon and today fabing some brackets for the boat dock....I guess that is indirectly related to the boat! Next they are off to the powder coater, then hopefully they get installed next weekend. They will hold some steel rollers that will help reduce some friction with the steel piles my dock floats up and down on.

I'll post a picture when they are installed, it will make more since then. I wasn't very happy with my welding, I need to practice I guess. I am tired of drilling holes in 3/8" steel, next time I'm going to have the holes punched!

Your welding Looks OK to me, as well as your drilling. Besides it's to cold for much else. Painting is on Hold till it warms up. I need a heated shop like yours!!!;)

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

Ok I'm back....been busy at the lake every weekend. The retaining wall is now full, still need to do some grading but once that is done I'm calling it done for the summer. I have great plans for a cool deck, but that will wait till the fall. My AC at the lake also died, so I have been working on that...oh and a 30' tree decided to fall....another project that I had to tackle, I have plenty of fire wood now, lol! I spent the last two weekends preping for the new AC, I'm going from a split system, to a package unit....so I have had to revamp a bunch of duct work and pour a new pad for the unit. I've been spending a lot of time on the duct work and sheet metal....and somehow got the pad poured in the rain last weekend. I shelled out the $$ for the unit, which set me back...but today I sold a old section of boat dock walk way which has freed up some $$ for Miss Morgan. I worked some on the design for the swim platforms last night, and plan to build a pine mock up this weekend. I figure I should do a dry run before cutting up $200 worth of teak! I'm also hoping to get the custom fuel tank ordered.....I also have a roll of LED lights to install under the gunnels....I'm ready to get after it Saturday once I deliver the walkway. Hope everyone is about ready for summer!

I have been looking at led lights for my boat as well gives it a neat look. Since I can't do any work on it till the weather cooperates I have been doing lots of window shopping. Your's will give me a good idea of what mine could look like.

Ok I delivered the old section of dock walkway that I had this morning, which freed up some cash for the boat. I worked up the mock up of the swim platform this afternoon, but I'm not happy with it....maybe its just the shape, but it feels kind of clunky.....I have also toyed with the idea of getting rid of the platform and just having a ladder....naturally nothing fits so I will have to build that....maybe I'm being too pessimistic, what do you guys think?

I think that swim platform looks pretty good. Although it breaks up the back end of the boat, and I'm not sure I like that. She's got a nice butt? LOL.

I see your dilemma, but you never want to mess a ladies butt. I think that swim platform looks pretty good though. Once you get that cut out of teak, and all oiled up, it is going look awesome.

I think that swim platform looks awesome! but not for that boat. I don't think that boat needs any wood on it.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

yeah that was what I was thinking....I thought I would like the teak Jay....but if I drill the holes in the transom I am married to it.....and the only reason for the swim platform is to get in and out....so maybe I should just build the stainless ladder. All of this figures into what I do with the fuel tank too. I need to sleep on it, lol!

I have looked at them, but I don't have enough transom for them.
